Early Decision questions

In a fit of madness or brilliance, I've decided to apply ED to Swarthmore. Unfortunately, this complicates things in the short run. A few things tripping me up:

UC apps are due by the end of November, yet ED results don't come back til mid-December. Is it worth applying to Berkeley? My mom's an alum, and it's a great school, but I don't really want to be at a big university.

Do I need to order all my transcript and SAT stuff off to colleges prior to finding out from Swarthmore? Very depressing if I have to waste all that money, though there may be no way around it.

Should I apply EA to U Chicago, just because I can and ought to have everything together by the due date anyway? Or should I save my money and wait til I find out from Swat?

Thanks for entertaining my neuroses! Probably none of these are major concerns, but I can only assume that someone is dealing with similar worries.

You may apply to other schools while you wait for your ED to come through. If you are accepted to Swarthmore (fingers are crossed for you!) then you contact the other schools to withdraw your application.

You don't have to order the SATs to be sent to the other schools before you hear from Swarthmore, but be certain to everything right away if you are not accepted so that you make the others' deadlines. This is true for other apps as well. You should have everything ready to go in the event of disappointment. That way you are not in a huge stressed out puddle trying to complete everything in less than two weeks (ED notification is only two weeks before many other apps are due).

Hope this helps.
