Early Decision rules

Dear all,
I have a question. My son would like to get into Purdue CS and for that reason we were planning to apply Early Decision to increase admission chances. He will put Computer Science as first choice and Undecided as the second choice.

If he doesn’t get into the CS department right away, he’d prefer to go elswhere for CS rather than try to get into CS at Purdue in the sophomore year.

If we apply ED and he gets into Purdue exploratory studies but not into his first choice, Computer Science, would he still be obligated to attend? That would create a problem with our plan. I’m sure he can get into Purdue no problem, but the confidence isn’t as high about the CS major.

Thank you!

Purdue does not have binding early decision, it’s early action. He’s under no obligation to accept the offer.

Check with Purdue. I know at my daughter’s ED college, it is only binding if you are offered first choice. However, you still have to accept or decline any alternative offer by the usual ED deadline.

I would ask Purdue.

Moot point. Purdue offers EA, not ED. EA is not binding.

Oh , great ! Thanks a lot that’s a relief !
