Early Decision Stats: 3579 applied, 1167 accepted

There is an article in the Long Island Newsday that describes the admission story of twins from Copiague, Long Island and also states thatt 3579 applied and 1167 were accepted. The article may be accessable only to subscribers - but the statistics appear to be out! (The twins were both accepted!)

So, anybody care to speculate what this means for RD?

ehh, it seems basically on par with how we all expected, right? i mean, this statistic can’t really surprise anyone (1/3 admit)

Since this class will have about 3150 members - that would mean about 36% of the class was filled through early decision. Last year, 41% of the class was filled through early decision. So there are more spots available for regular decision applicants this year.

Last year there were 3405 apps (1249 admitted) (36.68% accepted) and this year 3579 apps (1167 admitted) (32.60% accepted)

The total number of ED apps were up, but the ED acceptance rate was down.

So does this say anything about the ED applicant pool? Like they were weaker this year?

Just curious, if the ED applicant was yet still weaker, would they accept less people (so they hold up the same high standards) or would they still accept ~1/3 of the people and accept less qualified people?

I would say there are just higher standards this year.

There was an increase in applicants which means they had a larger pool to pick the best from.

Why did they say ~3000 applicants earlier? lol To get everyone’s hopes up? lol

Not that many more applicants applied this year than last year, and the admit rate was just… lower lol
