Early Decision Thoughts & Dorms. Please help!

I feel like I’m neck deep in college information right now and I can’t seem to make a decision.

I love Kenyon, it’s one of my first choices. However, I have one reservation that is trivial, but ultimately important to me: Residential life.

I can’t get a good read on what the dorms are like. Are they clean, most importantly? Are they places I want to live for a year? Are there singles available (Yes, I know it stunts social interaction, but I’d like a single if possible)?

Next issue is: should I apply early decision? I believe I’ll get some merit aid, but maybe not financial & I need that. But I’m almost 100% sure this is the school for me and I want the better chance of getting in.

Should I apply early decision? What is your experience with early decision if you have it? Can you get out of ED for financial reasons?

Freshman dorms are fine. Quieter dorms and more spacious dorms (for both doubles and singles) are on the freshman quad while McBride and Mather have tiny singles. And yes, you can get a single as a freshman.

If I’m not mistaken as long as you apply before a certain date, you’ll automatically be considered for merit aid (and that shouldn’t be hard considering there’s not supplement). If you’re certain that you would attend Kenyon if admitted, then go ahead and apply ED. If you don’t get enough money you can back out of the decision I think.
