Early Decision Thread

Critten,

Can you be more specific about your ECs so we have a better idea of how you gained admissions?

I'm wondering if for those that were deferred, do their applications go back to the bottom of the stack? I'm just trying to figure out of there's any hope :) March/April just seems like a long time to be finding out where you'll be attending college!

If i take an off period will i get denied

Well, what do you mean by "off period"? As long as you don't make any F's or D's, I really don't think anything will happen. I'm also considering dropping one of my honors electives, not because I want to slack off, but I wanna use that time to work in a part-time job and save for college. What do you think about that? Is that fine?

college kid what did you put down as your EC's on the application. Any info will be highly appreciated.

Thanks for the help, Critten.

yeah i want a job too. Oh my stats SATI=1340 SATII=720MATHIC,680WRITING,630~PHYSICS, 5.2GPA(6.0=100 in all honors), Rank5, decathlon(big at my school), regular honor stuff, varsity tennis, and i guess the helpful things = i opened a business sophmore year and made a small(but filed taxes for) income. Of course i built my own staff and stuff like that =P. Oh yeah, im asian (not that helpful)

i called admissions and i guess they forwared me to academic advisors(they knew i was newly accepted) and told me they see no reason why i would be let go if i took an off period...they even said its ok as long as i meet my requirements ie SAT graduation etc. they didnt even care if it was an honors class. So they didnt even take my name or anything so if you want proof call their admissions and tell me what they say to you =)

so dropping an honors class would be okay?

i dunno call!

did any ED acceptees get awarded merit scholarships?

wow everyones stats are pretty impressive, it makes me wonder how i got in.

Hey everybody, i read these forums often, but i have never gotten the gall to take the time and make my own profile, but today is the day! (regardless of my othello test tomorrow and my evil teacher's reputation of magically giving 84's to pretty much every test that I STUDY for)...maybe i shouldn't study..anyways, i was just wondering..i applied Early dec. to rice and I got deferred, according to this AI i have a 203....ugh..man, i smell....but i was just wondering, what the stats are for early deferred students into rice? im only askin cuz last year, my friend got in early non deferred, and i SERIOUSLY thought i was a better student than him (disregard all pretense) but...i was so bummed b/c this snot nosed wannabe kid at my school ran around BETTING people i wouldn't get in...gay, huh? if only gangs targeted the people who REALLY deserve to get it eh? LMAO! JK! but seriously , if anyone has any idea what the stats are for deferred earlys, please inform thee, let's just say it's a matter of pride...

candyman....u lucky ur mom works there, or else u'd have "melted"....LMAO! GET IT GET IT!?!? crickets chirp...tough crowd....

kenshinkms, my son was deferred ED with a 203 AI, too. GC says to not give up hope because they only took about 100 ED. There's still a chance...

Kenshinkms said "was so bummed b/c this snot nosed wannabe kid at my school ran around BETTING people i wouldn't get in...gay, huh?"

I hope that if you DO get accepted to Rice you will learn not to use "gay" as a pejorative term. It is very offensive.

actually, i hope ken learns that regardless of whether or not he gets into rice.

To those who were deferred, what do you think made it? Especially those with high stats, makes me super nervous as a RD applicant.

using 'gay' pejoratively isn't so bad. I have a lot of friends who are all for gay rights and non-discrimination that use it that way. One of them is gay himself. I would suggest restraint around people who might take it as an attack on gays, but like all 'bad' words, it's the intent that counts.

I think someone used the word "gay" in the Brown forum as well, and someone told him to stop using that word, too. At my school... it's fairly common for anyone to use that term and nobody takes offense. In addition, some students use that word often for its other definition (meaning happy).

So I'm kind of surprised that it's a "very offensive term," and I'll definitely keep that in mind.
