I want to apply ED to Columbia in the fall. I want to know if applying early will be better than applying regular. How much better? Columbia is my first choice. I still have to take SAT IIs. Will it be to late to take SAT IIs in october, if i am applying ED?

Sending October ones is fine. If it's your first choice and you don't need to get merit aid someplace else, then apply ED.

By how much will it increase my chances? Also if i don't need merit aid is it better ??

i think that the ED admit rate is around 26% (although it could be lower) ....... since Columbia is a need-blind school , not needing any financial aid will have no affect on your acceptance.

How important is class rank for Columbia?

rank is always somewhat important for the ivies (especially if someone ranked above or near you is also applying and you are both being considered)

Columbia fills up almost half its class with EDs so if you have all your crap together and CU is your first choice, APPLY EARLY. I couldn't because I am the reigning queen of procrastination and I needed to take my SAT I and IIs again before I began doing apps.
However, if the amount of money a school gives you would be important to your decisions, I would wait till RD

"(especially if someone ranked above or near you is also applying and you are both being considered)"

I meant two students ranked in the same high school if that wasn't clear

are ap exams important for Columbia? what if i don't take any, but instead take SAT IIs, which are required anyway.

ap exams will in no way affect your admission into Columbia ...... however your SAT 2's will.

Yeah applying early will definitely increase your chances. They are more willing to forgive some of your faults if they KNOW u will definitely be going there.

did you get into columbia anxious1?

Columbia's ED Accept Rate for 2005 was 23%
Deferral Rate: 27%
Rejection Rate: 50%

yeah i did get in

If you take the SAT three times and get:

1) 200, 200, 800
2) 200, 800, 200
3) 800, 200, 200

your SAT score, for Columbia , is 2400???

yes, it will be 2400

won't the 200s be bad? smithk how do you know?

he knows because they say so in the FAQ

that'd be a very strange set of score to get.... anyways, SEAS is my top choice right now, but my junior yr grades is so-so compare to the rest of my record, should I still apply Ed?

"1) 200, 200, 800
2) 200, 800, 200
3) 800, 200, 200"

For a lot of private schools (including CU) that set would equal a 2400. However, some schools such as the UCs (at least when I took the SATs) only take the highest same-day score which would be a 1200 in this case.

Do you know if Columbia does that?
