I want to apply ED to Columbia in the fall. I want to know if applying early will be better than applying regular. How much better? Columbia is my first choice. I still have to take SAT IIs. Will it be to late to take SAT IIs in october, if i am applying ED?

no its not too late for the II's and applying early will help but not as much as some would hope. I recommend applying ED not because it'll help you more (which it would, but to a minimum degree) but if you're not flat out rejected you would get deferred so you kinda have 2 chances to get in.

how important is class rank for Columbia? what's more important SAT or class rank?

Columbia EDs got owned this year

excuse my language

what do you mean got owned this year?

well columbia like all schools are getting more selective and yeh a lot of EDs got killed. They are more selective than UPenn which is higher ranked. This is most likely cause columbia is in NYC

You can really tell what Columbia prefers as with all of the most selective schools. Nowadays even with great GPA and great SAT admission is not guaranteed

what do you think is a good gpa and sat score to do ED?

I got in with a 3.8 UW/4.2 W and a 1440 SAT I.

Columbia is actually a far more selective school, both ED and Regular Decision than Penn and Princeton, because they are looking for a unique blend of students. Columbia was the 3rd hardest school in the country to get into this year (besides military academies and music schools) and was the toughest ED school (Yale was harder but it is EA).

In pretty much every ranking system besides US News, Columbia is rated higher than Penn. Penn is rated higher in US News because the Editor-In-Chief is a Wharton Grad.

Rankings, in and of themselves, are fairly useless. If you find a school that you love and would go there immediately in a heart beat, then apply ED no matter what the ranking.

Just in case it will help ...

I applied to Columbia and didn't get in. SAT - 1470 (760 verbal, 710 math), 33 ACT, GPA 4.0 unweighted 4.71 weighted.

So I'd definitely agree with the statement that scores aren't everything. It has to be more of a specific kind of class they try to create each year.

jaug1-where do u get those rankings?

(not from us news, right?)
