Early Decision Vs. Early Action

Ok, I know what the difference is. Early Decision is binding, while EA is not.

However, then what's the point of applying ED? Why doesn't everyone just apply EA instead of ED?

Please help guys.

It’s perceived that ED gives an admissions boost, because the college is guaranteed that you will attend. In some cases, it may, though no one knows for sure except college admissions people.

“Why doesn’t everyone just apply EA instead of ED?”

Because it’s the schools that offer EA or ED. It’s not as if the student can check off a box. School A only offers ED while school B offers EA. If you want non-binding, you better not apply to school A’s ED program.

Hope this makes sense.
