whats the difference between the regular decisions and the early decisions!? how exactly do they help?!

[Early Decision and Early Action](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Facts About Applying Early Decision or Early Action – BigFuture)

Early Decision: you apply early and get decision in December and you agree in writing to attend school if accepted and withdraw any other applications elsewhere when accepted. You can apply ED to only one school.

Early Action: you apply early and get decision in December but you are not bound to attend college and can still apply elsewhere. For most colleges, you are allowed to apply EA to multiple colleges, but some, Harvard, Stanford and Yale, prohibit you from applying ED or EA elsewhere if you apply EA to one of them.

Regular Admission: you apply during application period and get a decision usually between Feb and April, depending on college. You are not bound to attend if accepted.

Rolling Admissions: some colleges for regular decision have rolling admissions in that they issue decisions on a rolling basis as applications are received and thus you can get decison early if you apply early.

If applying early decision to a college that has it you usually have some better chance of being admitted than if you apply regular decision; how much better the chance depends on college, i.e., for a number of them the admission rate for ED is much higher than RD but for others the difference is not large. If college has rolling admissions, there is also some advantage to applying early including because if you wait to final deadline to apply some programs may already be filled with persons already admitted. Applying early action may give some advantage over regular admission at some universities but at high ranks you should assume it does not.

thanks! :)
