Early Decision

Waxbatt…you are the best!!

collegemom1315… what school did you aplpy to?

also is it safe to say that we can find out ANYDAY now after 5pm before dec 22?

Pretty much

It can be hard to transfer to Newhouse. It is very competitive and requires at least a 3.5 GPA.

thanks rodney, do you mean a viable second choice school? If so, she’s already been accepted to her 2nd choice school and even a 3rd. We are waiting to hear from the other 6 or so.

Folks, Duke and Stanford have already sent some responses, in, defer and even deny have been received by Nor Cal students.

letgetthisalldone: no, I mean on the Syracuse application they ask you for a 2nd choice sub school there; if you have applied ED or even RD, Syracuse will try to place you in your second choice if you are not admitted to your first…

so, for example, if you applied ED to Newhouse and you were not admitted to Newhouse, but put on your application, let’s say in VPA-communication as your second choice…Syracuse can (and often) will admit you to your second choice and it is not a binding decision; there is another thread started by JSIMON that actually talks about just this…

this applies to Whitman, etc. as well…

that’s why applying to Syracuse requires strategic maneuvering…for all sub-schools…

hi hope29292
my daughter applied to the college of arts and science as a biotechnology major; how about you?

rodney, correct. she was admitted to Religion & Society - part of Arts & Sciences. So all in all, we are all still extremely happy. Rodney, you are a voice of sanity on this Syracuse thread…

Rodney, what do you think the is the best route in terms of majors if you hope to transfer into Newhouse as a sophomore? My second choice was VPA for Communications and Rhetorical Studies but do you think it would be a smarter to go the undecided route at the College of Arts and Sciences? I hope to major in Public Relations if that makes a difference… Thanks!

chicagogrL: you got it right the first time; VPA CRS ; plus even if you stay with that major, the internships and connections are still quite good…and I suggest that because your GPA would be highest for the transfer…

Just got off the phone with a nice lady in admissions…very helpful! She said the school releases decisions ONCE A WEEK; therefore tomorrow will be the next batch of decisions emailed to prospective freshmen. Good Luck to everyone!!!

Admissions team go on break the 23rd. I cross-checked with Steele Hall.

My daughter got an e-mail on Dec. 10 indicating she was accepted. Now waiting to hear about possible merit scholarships. Anyone have any info on that?

Iceskater93 - my niece transferred into the Newhouse school once she got to SU - 1/2 way through her freshman year. That was about 7 years ago. I am not sure what her stats were but I know she was a pretty good student. Best of Luck to You!!

i’m absolutely on the edge.
i have done everything to get in.
With a 3.76, 27 ACT, national honors society, three sports, coaching, 2 year yearbook editor, voulenteering you name it, a successful interview with admissions I feel like i may have a shot.

Oh and mayor of Detroit/NBA hall of famer/successful businessman Syracuse alumni Dave Bing writing me a letter of rec should help out a little.

Anyway, i’ll have my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

us too nhs…us too…

Accepted into Whitman first but it was a mistake, I’m going to Newhouse!

When did that happen to you? Specifically, when were you accepted? The 10th or today?

Tick Tock Tick Tock can’t wait for 5 o’clock…
