I know that if you are accepted with the early decision plan you agree that you have to attend GW, but are you given any indication of how much financial aid you will recieve? I want to apply for early decision next year, but my biggest fear is that if I do get in, there may not be enough financial aid given and I will be stuck in a university that I can no way afford at face value. Has anyone had any experience with this or have been stuck in a similar situation?

I am in the same situation now, I already got accepted but I haven’t received my financial aid packet. GWU is known for giving the best financial aid for need-based, so hopefully I will be able to cover at least half of my tuition with their help.

To above posts:

Your concerns are valid and understandable. However, you should have a good idea of your FA “Need” from either the FAFSA of the CSS Profile. If you are accepted already -you likely know whether you are going to receive a “Merit” scholarship or grant with your acceptance packet.

That being said - GW “tries” very hard to meet your FA “Need”. This is the Cost of Attendance (COA) minus your Expected family contribution (EFC). The COA-EFC=Need.

This need is usually met by a “package” of FA. Scholarships, Grants, Loans, etc.

Remember - you and your family are responsible for the EFC amount! GW will not cover this. You can borrow loans for that amount - either Direct Stafford (You) or Direct PLUS (Parents) loans.

I assume you and your parents are aware of the EFC amount you/they are expected to provide?

If your FA is not “adequate” for you to attend GW without causing undue financial hardship - I’m sure they won’t “make” you enroll.

Best of luck
