Early Decision

im pretty sure i want to attend Syracuse but i was not able to find a lot of information about the early decision process along with financial aid. Can anyone tell me about their experience applying early decision?

I read in one of those college books that Syracuse has a pretty high ED acceptance rate. Not sure how the financial aid package will work for ED but if you aren’t able to pay 54 grand a year it wouldn’t be a good idea to ED then. I was accepted RD this year and with scholarship and grant the cost went down to 32 grand a year but that just brought down the high cost to the cost of normal priced Colleges.

since syracuse uses the commonapp, your ED is sort of protected. if they don’t offer you financial aid which technically meets your demonstrated need (this includes loans they offer), you can still choose to apply to other colleges even if you’re accepted ED. admittedly, you should still be concerned that you might not be offered the same kind of financial aid as you could during RD–that’s just how it is. nevertheless, if you’re worried that you won’t be accepted for RD, syracuse is a school which actually tries to meet your FAFSA. it might be worth it.

you can find last year’s ED form here: https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/ED_Agreement.pdf

here’s an excerpt:
“Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment.”

This is good to hear. I am considering applying Early Decision to Syracuse, but overall I wasn’t sure how their acceptance rate was and how much financial aid they offer.
