I love Amherst enough to apply ED, i think. The official line is that early decision does not give you an advantage, but that is not what some college advisors at my school say–does anyone have any insight or knowledge about what really goes on in this regard?

The school says the higher ED acceptance rate is accounted for by recruited athletes, legacies, or other unusual cases. It still seems like a very high differential between ED and RD to me, even with that group included…
IS this just my wishful thinking?

I think–but I am not sure–that I am a pretty decent candidate. Believe me, I know how tough it is to get in! As I have posted before on this site, my SATS are CR 800, WR800, But math 690.
Now I have some additional info:
SAT II US HISTORY 800, CHEM 800, but math II 740.

I am an A+ math student but work slow. I never finish. Nothing helps.

Have taken Hardest( honors, AP, two languages, etc.) course load in general, number one or two in my class. Lots of political work in and out of school, and started social action groups that succeeded.

Mostly I want a school with a focus on critical thinking, intellectual excitement, and community. I also love Amherst’s commitment to diversity. It tells me a lot about the place. Its social consciousness and vitality- Not a pre professional mill. Any info, advice, thoughts? Thanks
