Early Decision

Is it difficult to get into the Biomedical Engineering program at Cal Poly? Even with early decision?

It’s one of the toughest admits at Cal Poly. It isn’t their best known or largest department, they just don’t have many slots to offer. As a result, it’s about a 10% admission rate over all. Like most schools, ED will be a little easier. If you are CERTAIN about CP and BME, you should apply ED. Good luck.

I would say it’s all relative and depends on your stats. I was accepted into biomedical engineering early decision for fall 2015 at Cal Poly. I wasn’t too sure if I was going to get in since my stats were a little below the average for engineering at Cal Poly. If you are sure you want to go there, early decision is a smart way to go.

What were your stats, if you don’t mind me asking? @linz971

You can’t simply compare stats for CP admits and rejections. There’s more to the admissions process than just test scores, GPA and ECs. Search for the Confused About MCA thread and read my two responses. It will introduce and explain the MCA algorithm.

Recommend Early Decision for BioMed – my son has friends this year denied Regular Decision at Cal Poly BM and were admitted to Berkeley, UCLA and UCSD and prestigious private universities back east. Do think @eyemgh is correct that the admit rate is less than 10% for this major and few others like ME and CS during RD round.
