Who else is applying to Vassar ED Round 1? What are your stats? Why are you interested in Vassar?

I sent off my application a week ago and I requested an alumni interview. I visited the campus over the summer and I love it so much and I can't wait to get a decision even though that's close to two months away.

i have some other ECs as well, but i'm too lazy to list.

My essay will be good to great, my teacher rec will be good, my counselor rec will be great, and i have an extra (stellar) recommendation from 2 vassar grads who were on the admissions committee until 2 yrs ago.

I also visited the campus this summer and loved it.

Iheartvassar, i'd say you have an excellent shot, especially since Vassar isn't the most ethnically diverse school around... Your E.C.s might hurt you though.

I hope to see you there next year!!! Just out of curiousity, what is your political leaning? I think i'm a liberal at heart, but living in texas for 10 yrs has turned me into a moderate (on the left socially, but a little to the right politically).

I'm also a little worried about the skewed m:f ratio. Apparently, the class of 2008 was 30:70.

My ECs do suck, but hopefully they won't hurt me too much. My essay is about some of the difficulties I had to overcome during high school, so it pretty much explains why my grades dropped earlier and I couldn't spend to much time with extracurricular activities. Politically and socially I'm on the left. I'm not too worried about the low male:femaile ratio, I just hope it works in my favor during admissions, lol.

Is anyone else applying to Vassar early decision? Don't be shy, introduce yourself and...stuff!

I was wondering to what extent being a recruited athlete at Vassar will help someone. My GPA is clearly on the low side, 3.2 and my sat's are 1340. Anyone with any experience or ideas? Thanks a lot.

D3 schools recruit? I didn't know that

They recruit in the sense that they try and get players to attend their school. D3's dont offer athletic scholarships or any type of advantages to student athletes.

Wildcatdude
Are you applying to Vassar ED? What sport do you play?

I might apply to Vassar ED. I am worried my gpa might be too low and would not be worth it.

Well applying early decision would help your low gpa and you'd have a better chance since you're a guy and an athlete.

Im applying early decision. I really don't know how else to show the admission people how much I love the school. Im a bit worried about my chances due to my low sat of 1210 but everything else on my app is good (96-97 average, good ECs, good letters, good essay) and i think i have a few things going for me like im a guy, im first generation to go to college, and im hispanic. I really do hope I get in because Vassar is my top, number 1, choice. No school compares

It sounds like you have a really good chance of being accepted except for your SAT score, but Vassar pays more attention to your gpa, course load, and ranking. I love Vassar so much. I hope we both get in since we want to go so badly. That would be awesome.

I am also a Vassar "lover" here (no matter how sad that might seem to some people). The other day, sat in for two amazing classes (in music and biology). The professors seem so damn intelligent, and it is amazing how every student is truly interested in the class. (Though, I have to say that the 80 steinway piano dispersed throughout Vassar is another little nice feature, since I am a fanatical classical pianist).

That's so cool. I visited during the summer so I only got to tour the campus and attend the information session. Unfortunately I live to far away to spend the night or sit in on a class. I've only heard good things about the teachers and classes, so that's good enough for me.

So far the only people that have expresed a lot of interest in Vassar and talked about applying early decision are guys. Where are all the girls that are applying early decision to Vassar?

Ehhhhh I just got word from Charlotte, the lady in charge of alumni interviews that requests were sent out so I know I should be hearing from someone and others should too.....

In other news I went to visit Trinity in Connecticut and thought it was really nice. Very pretty.

As for the girls, they better be there because if its all guys applyng Early Decision that doesnt bode well for me....Im drained from worrying about this stuff. I hope my interview goes well but I have a feeling it will because with the others ive done I haven't been all that passionate about the schools and because of that I know I don't sound real interested. With Vassar that won't be the case.

At the college fair I went to this past week or two, there were A LOT of girls at the table which I was happy to see. Im in New york which isnt good for me but at least there were mostly girls expressing interests.

That's great, I signed up for an alumni interview and I've been waitng to be called about it or something. I know mine will go well, I'm just too excited about it, there's no way I could mess it up. I've been worrying a lot too, but I think it'll all work out in the end, hopefully.

With a school like Vassar, I know there has to be a majority of girls applying ED there, I just wish they would post on here or something. I was hoping a bunch of people applying ED would post on here so we could chat and all that good stuff and then if we all get in, we'll already know some of our classmates. However, my plan isn't working out that well. Oh well. Whatever. I just hope I get in.

Hey guys, I was just wondering about the importance of alumni interviews for Vassar. I remember at the open house, the Dean of Admissions said that the Vassar interviews are purely for informational purposes, and do not have any reflection upon the admissions process. Do any of you think it really does help?

I am not going to sign up for an interview, but a week or so ago, I had a great sort of "interview" with the chairman of the music department. He said that once I mail in a CD recording of myself playing piano, he would write a recommendation to the music department about me. Do any of you think this is a good substitute for a standard alumni interview?

It's not a big factor but can help because after some exploration of the Vassar website I saw that the alumni who conduct interviews have to submit an evaluation of the applicant concerning their enthusiasm for and knowledge of the school, other passions, etc. I think you're talking with the chairman is even better than an alumni interview since he's a faculty member and has agreed to write a personal recommendation for you.
