Early Decision

Yea, most schools have the interviewers send a written piece with questions to show the admissions people what they thought of the candidate. I believe that is how it is with Vassar.

I did an interview for Cornell however and I could definetly tell that that was not the case for them. Their interviews are more informational and the man said that while he did have to write a short piece about me, it was very little and was mostly for me...

In any case, I have enthusiasm and knowledge, and questions to ask so Im prepared in any case.

Why are there no new people talking about applying early decision to Vassar? We can't be the only ones. Can we?!?! My goal of having a bunch of people posting on here about Vassar is not being accomplished. At all. Come on people! Let's talk about Vassar!

Lol I guess we're the only ones who are guys and are applying, which is good! I'm so drained from worrying about the application and the decision, Im just not even trying to think qabout it because it just gets me nervous and what not. I still havent heard anything about my interview which is annoying but yeah...... Hopefully more people will show up come time for the regular application deadline.

That'd be great if we were the only guys applying. Guaranteed admission! I've been going back and forth about my application. Sometimes I'm confident and other times I'm doubtful. I just need December to get here, like, NOW. I'm still waiting to hear about my interview too, so hopefully I'll be called or emailed sometime this week.

I'm curious, what do you think your application's strengths are? By that like, the fact that your from Georgia as opposed to say NY is a plus because they obviously want people from different areas. What other things do you think you have going for you?

Have you sent your application in or does your school do it like mine?

Strengths: from GA, black, male, first generation college student, low income, top 10%, IB student, 1420 SAT score, very active in Habitat for Humanity and P.E.A.C.E. Club, good recs, great essays, will have a great interview if anyone ever calls, aaannnddd I'm totally awesome!

My school puts all the stuff together and sends off the application in one packet in order to make it look professional and what not.

What do you think your strengths are?

On a side note: Im losing my mind worrying about this because I hate all of this stuff. Im not sure Id be happy at any other school im applying to in the event that I don't get into vassar. I really hope God's on my side for this and helps...

Im a guy, hispanic, first generation, really good standing in class, active in big brothers big sisters and school's campus ministry volunteer program, essay and rec are good, likewise about interview although no one has called yet and im not gonna bnother anyone about it anymore, visited 3 times not to show that i visit but to see it by myself and with both parents, ED

Maybe im doubting myself too much.

Hopefully we are doubting ourselves too much and come December we'll both be able to sit back and finally relax. And then we can go to vassar and meet each other and become best. friends. for. life. lol. Okay, maybe not all that, but I really want us to get in so we don't end up at Crap University. By the way, what other schools are you applying to? I'm applying to Sarah Lawrence, Northeastern, and maybe some others I haven't decided on.

Yea, hopefully come december in time for my birthday on the 22nd we can relax. Im applying to a few others but I dont know if Id want to attend....

Trinity College in CT
Colgate University which I wont get into
Union College
Brandeis Which i dont wan to go to
Tufts which I loved
Boston College Where my brother goes
Loyola in MD as an ultra safety

And im forgetting one....honestly though i could see myself at BC, tufts, maybe trinity, the others are just to make sure i have options in the event nothing works out.

Im going to vassar God willing though so dont need to worry about any of this now do i?

I can definitely feel for all of your nervousness. I am handing in my Vassar application next week (for ED II), and I have never felt so anxious before. If we all got in, it would be nice to meet you guys, and start an on campus Vassar Fanclub! From what it sounds like, you guys don't need to be nervous; you both have great chances of getting in. But hopefully it will all work out for us! Good luck.

Vassar's admissions process is, much like the school, a bit quirky. From what i've heard from my friend who is ex-adcom, SAT scores don't matter much at all. The thought process is basically, "is this person in the range (IE: 1300-1450)? No? Then why not?" Also, being a male doesn't help as much as you would think. If you're not a favorable candidate, being a male isn't going to help much...

Also, what did you guys do about filling in the ECs bit? Did you add on an extra page or what?

Well then in my case, what would they think about me? Why did my score not fall exactly in their range? How can they get an idea of that when my verbal was okay at 660 and my math grades in school are mid 90s?

Ehhhh that worries me....

In any case, I came to the forum to say that I just got my little postcard that they acknowledge receiving the rest of the application.

Hey Moocow, I have an SAT of 1310 right now. Do you think this is good enough for Vassar (or, within the range)? Supposedly, Vassar also looks very much at SAT II's, of which mine are 710 Math IC, 750 writing, and 730 physics. Do you think these scores would make up for the mediocre 1310? Though, I do very much agree with you that this is a very secondary thing for Vassar. After all, it is just a stupid 3 hour test.

oh yeah, one more question for all of you ED people. For the extra-curricular part, I need many more spots than the amount they gave me. Can I just simply type out my whole resume, attach it with the application, and say "see attached?" Also, I noticed there is a part of the application asking what you see in Vassar. Is that meant to be a long description, or just a few sentences?

I just limited my ECs to the most important activities so they all fit on the page because I kind of remember the admissions person at Vassar saying that they really didn't want a long resume of all your activities, just the ones most important to you and you invested the most time in. Also, I answered the question by just telling how I found out about Vassar and why I want to go and limited it to the space on the application.

I took advantage of the fact that it says to attach a separate sheet if necessary and wrote about a page and a half to answer the two short questions. I always tend to write a lot though so it doesnt mean much that I wrote that much.

As for the ECs, it says to list in the order of their importance to you so i just listed what I could fit....

iheartvassar- do you live in the Altanta area? If so, my aunt might be interviewing you...

I live about 20 minutes away from downtown Atlanta.

Okay, so this is what I need you to do: tell your aunt that am superdy duperdy amazing and she MUST write me the BEST REVIEW EVER so I will be accepted into Vassar!!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

Well, I'm applying ED I.

Here's my stats

Math IIC: 650 (took IC in Nov)
Chem: 710
GPA: 4.5 scale(4.5=A+)

Hispanic Male

It is strange that most of the people post are guys but i think that is a fluke. When I visited Vassar I was the only guy on my tour and in the info section. There were like 11 girls.
