For my "Your space" i submitted 4 classical/contemporary ballet pose pictures outside by the GW bridge (connecting NJ &NYC). They were kind of cool looking, and I thought it would be a good way to show my creative side. I also put them on blue and green paper and made them black & white, so i think it turned out nicely. Im sure someone else has come up with something much cooler- because I am not cool- hence the lack of coolness in my "Your Space" :-)

Hey everybody, just handed in my Vassar Application for ED II to guidance counselor. Though, I was just sort of worried about something. You know for the part of the application that pretty much asks for EC's and Academic Honors? On that section, I wrote "see attached resume". Was this a very bad thing; did Vassar intend to have both a resume and this sheet filled out? nothing was ever specified! I am such a nervous wreck.

Don't worry about it, it should be fine. As long as they were ECs that you really wanted to add because you truly invested yourself and your time in them it should only help. Even if they didn't want that, it's not gonna determine whether you're accepted or rejected.

I am applying to Vassar regular decision. I can't figure out what to do the the "your space" and i'm unsure of what essay to send for the writing sample. I took a class at georgetown university last summer and i was thinking to maybe submit an essay i wrote for the class. it was a political philosophy class.

well, they say a History or an English paper, and i submitted a Constitutional Law paper, so a political philosophy paper would probably be fine. Just run it by your guidance counselor, a quick "this is ok, right?". They just want to see if you can write.

Like iheartvassar said, i doubt submitting a resume will hurt but for others, id avoid doing this as, from what i've read in The Gatekeepers and other bits here and there, the people reviewing the files would rather you just put the info on the application and not submit other paperwork if its not really necessary.

As for the interviews for you guys(and girls) waiting, this is the response i received from the director of admissions. Get from it what you will:

Dear Nicolas,

After receiving your email, I checked with Ms. Christman as to whether your request for an alumni interview had been forwarded to our alumni chair in your area. It has been sent out and an alumnus should be contacting you shortly to set up the interview. There are a few things that I should point out, however. First, do not worry about the deadline date of November 15 -- that is simply the date by which we require that the application itself be received and is not a deadline for everything else which supports the application. So if your interview takes place in the next few weeks, we will have the report of that conversation from the alumni admissions interviewer in plenty of time for our committee meetings. Second, interviews are entirely optional, and are primarily for the student's benefit, allowing them to get another perspective on the college from an alumnus. No student is disadvantaged in the admissions process in any way if they do not have an alumni interview. So while I fully expect that you will be contacted shortly to arrange an interview, even if for some reason this were not to happen, you would not be negatively affected at all. I hope that this information is somewhat reassuring for you.

I also contacted my local alumni through email. Not only did I receive quick responses to all of my questions, but they were very accomodating!

Vassar owns.

I don't know how much the your space counts but I did it even though im not very good at actually making things. Im creative but not good at making things a reality.

In any case, i decided to do a collage sort of things even though they told everyone at an information session that collages are tricky because they get a lot of them so if its not good it wont stand out.

I tend to think mine came out okay, I used a lot of different things with the words I Am... Cut out from their advertising cut out and at the top with the different things I think are important about me....

Hey everybody, another question. I just found out I got a 30 on the ACT (much to my pleasurable surprise). I originally had a 1310 on the SAT. Would this 30 on the ACT improve my ED II chances? Also, my SAT II's are very good; would the admissions officers look at ACT and SAT II's?

When I visited the school, they said that they look at either your SAT's & SAT II's OR ACT's. They have a way of figuring out which combination is better for you, and take what they consider to be your best of those two options (if you submit both) and considering that for your admission.

hey guys

Im a student from India and I've applied to Vassar for ED I

my stats

SAT I - 1330 (math-650, verbal-680)
SAT II- I did them in november in writing, literature and math I, I emailed them and they said I could apply for ED I even though my SAT II scores would be sent later (theyre out today and im so nervous......im gonna do miserably in math since i havent done math since 10th grade)

In India we dont have advanced placements and dont calculate GPA or ranks....my class average is around 85% which is pretty high for an Indian Education (its sorta more competitive than most other education systems including the british and american ones)

My Extra curriculars are really good, ive done a lot of drama both professional and school level, Represented my country in many events outside the country and have done a fair ammount of community service. I was elected house captain in my school.

My letters of reccomendation were really good and i attached an extra one from my psychology teacher

My essay was also pretty good, i wrote a lot about my last production - where i played the lead in fiddler on the roof

My writing sample was a study that i did in school for a psychology class, it was sorta like a thesis - very in depth

for my Your Space submission i wrote an essay about coming out of the closet in a country like India where practicing homosexuality is punishable by law ( i know it might seem a little derogatory to use something personal like this to my advantage but thats not how i wrote it, its more about how ive come out on top )

I am so anxious about getting in, because Vassar is the place for me and I just know it. To make it more difficult, i wont be able to attend (even if i do get in) unless i get enough financial aid.

Best of Luck to you guys and to all of us who are counting the days till dec 15th

cheers

I don't think Vassar is need-blind for international students... I'm not sure ED was the best choice for you, but good luck nonetheless.

Hey! It's me again, I'm reposting my stats because I just got my SAT II scores and ACT scores. Here's my stats:
I'm applying EDII
Hispanic (yay!) female
SAT I: 1420 (710 V, 710 M)
SAT II's: 680MathIC, 720Writing, 750Literature
ACT: 33
GPA:4.0 W
the one thing I'm worried about, my GPA has been declining from a 4.3 freshman year to a 3.7 this quarter, does Vassar look at 1st quarter grades for EDII??? Im worried about how much this will hurt me.
Class Rank: not sure, but should be in top 10%
EC's:
Piano lessons: 7th-12th
Cheerleading: 9th-10
Flag Corp: 11-12(captain in 12)
Art Club (founder) 11-12 (secretary)
NHS: 11-12(secretary and treasurer)
Voice Lessons: 11-12
Theatre: Various shows from the summer after 9-12, around 10 total, no major parts

Trying to think of original essay and my recs should be relatively good

Lemme know wut u think.

does anyone know anything about the theatre and music program? I like traditional dance, music, and theatre. Not into modern or postmodern. I was wondering if anyone knows which Vassar tends to lean towards.
I'm in love, but trying not to fall too in love, in case I'm not accepted.

Thanx every1,

hey
ur stats look good
i am also planning on taking up theatre but am very open to any kind both classical, modern and post modern. im pretty sure that any theatre program in any college circles around all theatrical stylings and wont be limited to any one. It would be odd if they concentrated on modern and post modern theatre without laying emphasis on classical theatre since the process of evolution must be traced

good luck

why would you say that?

I think the things that help my application the most are my strong dedication to drama since age 6 since then ive only had starring roles and ive written, directed and starred in many productions both professional and school level. I was the only International Delegate at 3 MUN conferences held in the states and won best delegate at two. also - I've represented my country at a cultural youth exchange program held in singapore.

I attached a resumee of all my theatre experience since i was very clear in the application that i wanted to study drama at vassar, ive also attached a list of the awards ive won over the years

I've also heard that there are not too many International ED applicants so this betters my chances somewhat

gaar! i have to find a way of staying calm untill dec 15th

Vassar does look at your first quarter grades and you have to get those sent in if your applying ED

23 days you guys!!!

I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG!!!! dies

me neither!!

This wait is ruining my friendships. all my friends are getting angry because they say im on edge or something....lol

some times i feel good about my chances and am happy and then other times ill come to this site and read about the next wiz kid with ridiculously high grades and i start to doubt my place among the applicants....

this is terrible. i wish vassar had a nov. 1 early decision that way now the wait would only be 7 days.

whats worse is their speed- no one has contacted me for the interview and they wont inform people until the end of next week in most cases if anything is missing
