Early Decision

Does anyone know how many ED applications Amherst received this year?

how would someone know this?

I don't believe that they have released the numbers yet, but I'm not completely sure.

According to an article in "The Amherst Student", there were 350 ED applicants. 134 were accepted, 175 were deferred, and 38 were rejected. The Dean of Admissions said that he expects 15-20 of the deferred students to be accepted come RD time. This is a 38% acceptance rate, and this keeps with Amherst's policy of keeping the number of ED acceptances under 30% of the class. Average SAT scores were 713 for Critical Reading, 704 for Math, and 715 for writing. The average ACT score was 32. 28 students (21% of the accepted students) were legacies. Not much can be interpreted from these statistics since legacies and athletes typically apply ED, so the acceptance rate will be much higher than the RD acceptance rate. Also according to this article, decision letters are going to be mailed tomorrow. Good luck to all who applied.

One of my friends was deferred via QuestBridge.
Very discouraging considering her stats.
But I've been told by QBers that it's harder to get in ED round anyway.

When did this article come out?

The paper came out today. I don't know whether the tomorrow in the article is from when the article was written or when the paper came out. Regardless, you guys will be finding out soon.

If you all were in my brain right now, this is likely what you'd hear:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

so if they get mailed tomorrow....what are the odds they come by saturday?

I. AM. FREAKING. OUT.

I was on the Amherst chat last night, and one of the deans said that they received 390 ED applications. And yes, they mailed them out this morning.

Good luck everyone!

are you SURE the mailed out the ED letters yesterday morning, the 7th?

That 390 number differs from the post that quotes the Amherst Student newspaper article that sites quite a bit fewer ED applications. It would be interesting to know the final numbers. Whatever they are we will all know our individual outcomes either tomorrow morning or Monday. I hope its tomorrow as its getting tough to wait much longer. Many of my friends who applied EA and ED to other schools have already heard this week.

Good luck to the Amherst EDers from the Williams EDers!
