do any of you know how many ED applicants swat received this yr?

Generally they don't release those numbers until after they accept/reject people, do they?

I'd assume something close to past years. Last year was around 400, I think.

That is a VERY important question, and I am intrigued by how other schools competing with Swarthmore have released this information, but Swarthmore has not. I have scoured Swat's website, and nothing is mentioned about the size of this year's early decision pool. I would not be surprised if Swarthmore saw a decline similar to Yale's single-choice early action program 9% decline, as both schools are competitve institutions which had incredible increases in the number of students who applied last year.

I should explain why the last point in my last post is significant: many admissions officers at colleges and universities have argued in the past that should a school appear too competitive due to an increased number of applications during one year, the following year, the number of applicants usually declines, as many students are turned-off, and apply to a less competitive school where they percieve themselves to have better chances.

Well, I can't say I'll be dissappointed if there's a slight decline in early applications. I want this to be the strongest ever applicant pool... for regular decision, if I've already been admitted early.

I haven't seen the numbers anywhere either, and I'm surprised that other schools have posted them. I can't really make any guesses from personal experience, since hardly anyone applies to Swarthmore from my high school in any year.

i dont know where my friends have gotten statistics
but my friend who applied ED to upenn said apps went down 2% or so

i guess everything is just going through my head knowing that the admissions office has probably finished making all its decisions..
and our folders are lying around somewhere...

UPenn's not really comparable...it's huge, they have a lot of applicants ED, and I don't think it'd be fair to really use their stats to compare to Swat.

I'd be pretty happy if the applicant pool for ED I went down, since last year was a big number...I want the best chance possible, haha. But like ilovefish said, they've probably already made their decisions...

What goes in those big acceptance envelopes anyway? :P

If nothing's changed since 2003-2004 (admitting the class of '08), the ED acceptances actually come in a small, thin envelope. They don't send the big packet of stuff until later, I think.

Oh, good! I don't have to be paranoid about that even before opening it, then. :]

So they don't send anything else special to the ED kids? We've already agreed...so I can't imagine what they could do...anyway, that's good to know regardless. :D

well, i would like a wrapped box of godiva chocolates in swattie colors and a nice ready-to-eat lobster if i get deferred or rejected as a "we're sorry to reject you but here's a nice present"

and if i'm accepted, just a nice "congrats! you have been accepted to swat!" letter would suffice

i'll keep dreaming...:)

oh yes, and on the topic of this thread,

you guys are right--upenn isn't comparable. i was just hoping swat's ED apps went down also...

Haha! Chocolates would be a lovely parting gift to my dream...not enough to make me feel better, but hey - better than nothing. :]

I agree, I'd be happy with an acceptance letter...only 8 days left!

I wish I could report otherwise but my D's friend heard that ED1 apps were up this year-

I don't know if I can believe anything that isn't taken from a paper or a valid site.

But all other top-ranking LACs had their ED applications go down, so...well, we can hope. :]
