The deadline for turning in an early decision application is November 1st, but Questbridge's notification of finalists will be about a week before that. Am I going to have to wait for Questbridge's email before I can start filling out all the forms and sending in the materials to Yale or can I send some stuff to them and fill out some of the application but not submit the final early action signed copy until I know if I am a Questbridge finalist or not? I just need to know if I will only have a short week to get everything fillled out and sent to Yale if Questbridge doesn't work. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yale doesn’t have Early Decision

Yale uses a restrictive form of Early Action, not Early Decision. There’s an entire board on CC devoted to the Questbridge Program. That’s probably the best place to raise your question.

My question concerns sending documents to Yale, Questbridge is merely a date/deadline in the context of this situation. Thus, this is the best place to post this. All I am trying to figure out is if I can send in financial aid documents, apply for waivers, fill out some of the application, and maybe send in my secondary school report with teacher recommendations even if I still have not technically “applied” yet. Since I will not know if I am allowed to apply to Yale until after I know my finalist standing I was hoping to get a majority of my stuff sent to Yale before I actually “applied” thus giving me fewer documents to send within the week time frame I will have if I am not chosen by Questbridge.

And that’s smart, and of course you can do it that way. Just don’t hit the send button on the application until you know your QB status.

So Yale will accept all of my testing information, school reports, teacher recommendations, and financial aid documents even though I haven’t technically applied yet?

Yes, and what’s more they will probably count you as an applicant in their statistics, and send you a rejection letter in April, even if you never actually apply. You should make certain to open a file on the admissions web site so they have something to associate your stuff with and it doesn’t get lost. But this is how many/most people apply – they get everything sent in, and the very last thing submitted is the part with their essays and application fee.
