Early Decisions Are Officially DONE!

I just had my 3rd Penn acceptance dream last night haha.. it was so weird. Basically, my neighbor (who's a junior) and I were playing tennis at the park or something. I went home for some reason but came back, and my neighbor's dad had these envelopes and he looked pretty excited. For some reason, I knew it was the Penn decisions, so I opened mine up and I was completely syked, because it said I was accepted. My neighbor opened his as well, and he was accepted too (which didn't make any sense since he's only in 11th grade now). Haha.. only in my dreams! (literally)

i've never had a penn acceptance dream. perhaps it's a sign. my friend had a dream i didn't get accepted, though. so, things are not looking good.

I know there's a term for the ability to 'control' your dreams and even realize that you're dreaming. I read an article about it during the summer, and I think I may have an acute ability to do it. I'm sure many of you have had that weird thing where you just KNOW you're dreaming, so you're not afraid of "dying" in your dreams or whatever. I know it's happened to me many times before. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Well, I bring that up because it may have something to do with the fact that I always think about Penn decisions at night or something.

i had a dream i got accepted...my friend and I got accepted, except he's not even applying to penn. I was in the Penn dorms when I checked my decision, and I got in and got dressed and went to class AT PENN about 20 minutes later. talk about senioritis...just go straight to penn. :)

yea, i often am having a really bad dream and then i'm like waaait... why are you torturing yourself? just wake up. and then it all goes away. i'm surprised i have not had a penn dream though, either good or bad. i always have anxiety dreams. i think my whole mind is just shutting down due to stress. haha.

stambliark- haha. wouldn't that be nice?

i had my first dream last night, OMG it was weird, i dont remember anything about it except i woke up early thinking about penn

am i the only one who dreamt of getting a rejection letter from Penn? but funny thing is I didn't get depressed for some reason. i opened the letter, read it, went "oh ok" and tht was it! i'm so wishing for my dream to not come true!

KRabble: i know what u're talking about! has happened several times to me as well. i'll be like "wut the heck, it's just a dream!" while dreaming!

I've had rejection dreams, but no acceptance dreams... :(

I can't sleep.

i've had so much to do recently that i've been going to bed really late so i've been actually falling asleep very easily but getting very little of it. i can't imagine the night before decisions... i think i'll just have to stay up on this board and have some weird, hysterical discussion all through the night.

So far I've had one acceptance dream, I was wicked pumped and ended up throwing an awesome party, and one rejection dream. I guess that means I'll get deferred lol.

It's called "lucid dreaming."

krabble, aaron: lucid dreaming? Its when u are essentially awake within your sleep. I do it a lot (comparitively), cuz when i play soccer all day and come home, i kinda nap, and then i'll fall half-asleep. it feels just like sleep, but i can wake myself up whenever i want to go get back to work. i can also change what i'm dreaming, like flipping channels, lol.

as for penn dreams, I had one. it was really weird. i was like at school, and it was like scooby-doo, or twilight zone or something, cuz i would walk through one door into a party, walk out, then walk into the middle of a clemson-ga tech football game....except the game was by clemson engineers....the players were robots! neato. thoughts. then, i segway'd to my old house (a mere 7200 km away), and had a big party there, then went back to my school and continued partying. right before i woke up I said, "hey, i got into penn! it's like i'm dreaming."
then i said. "oh, sh//! i'm dreaming! dont wake up, dont wake up, dont wake up...."

i woke up.

oh! i forgot the best part!

ok, so i got in, like, provisionally, with say 8 of my friends. (who didn't apply. cuz: 4 freshmen, two sophomores, a junior or two, maybe one or two seniors lol) so they (an adcom) personally brought the letters, and they had fine print at the bottom, that said we got in, but we had to be janitors, or build something, or something like that. I said "OKAY!!!"

Since we've already digressed from the topic, I have a question about the increase in applications. Do you suspect the 21% increase is largely made up of "under" qualified applicants? In that I mean, B+ students with 1200 to 1300 SAT scores. Five years ago at my high school, there were 2 ED applicants for Penn (both of whom had 1400 or higher SATs, A students, etc.) Today, there are more than 10 applicants, most of whom are pretty qualified but there are still some who have SAT scores in the 1200 to 1300 range. I know SATs aren't everything, but it really seems like Penn did a good job hammering in the idea that numbers aren't everything. What are your opinions?

P.S.- 26e, great dream! :)

jeez, well, SEAS was considered to be easier to get into, and saw a massive 40% jump. ED was a well documented boost. Honestly, it seems that people are trying to exploit Penn's numbers to get into an ivy. At least i hope that's the case. I do expect that prolly 60%+ of the new applicants have no hope whatsoever.

at least i hope

yea, i think some people are probably not totally qualified (like me... haha. well, i am right in the middle, i guess) but i think the real reason is just a mixture of a lot of factors... penn does a really good job of presenting itself (much better than some other schools... such as columbia) and they work hard to spread their name. also, i think the idea that they are easier (at least according to average scores and such) to be accepted to than some other schools of the same caliber makes penn seem more appealing.

A real old article, and I know it's been posted before but it may be of some help(and consolation) in the next few days in making sense of everything. It also answers some Qs that ppl have asked here such as:

At the time they went thru 2166 ED apps in 8 days (explains why they needed more time this year!)

16 regional directors spend at least a half hour on each app ahead of time.

Admissions committee DOES discuss(even if generally) how many are coming from a particular HS, and how strong the app is compared to others.

They will deny or defer in order to avoid sending the wrong message to a school about the kind of kids they are looking for.

Here's the link:

I had another rejection dream last night :(.

I distinctly remember one part of my "letter" reading: "There are some holes in your application that have caused us some concern."

:(

It kinda sucks that they compare applicants from a particular HS. I feel like I'm one of the weaker if not weakest applicant from my school..

Weird...I had my first Penn acceptance dream last night as well BUT I was dreaming about driving up to Philadelphia and moving into my dorm. My roomates, yes roommates, were kool as hell, but I forgot ALL my clothes back here in Virginia. So we had to drive all the way back to get my clothes.
