Early Decison question

My daughter is an athlete who was recruited DIII and choose to apply ED1. We applied hoping that merit award and outside schaolrhsips, along with grandparent help would be able to afford the tuition. It is May 1st and we have come to the realization that our daughter, while smart, didn’t receive much merit award and absolutely no outside scholarships she applied for. ALso, health issue concerning the grandparents will most likely eliminate that financial help option thus requirng us to look at requesting a release form the ED agreement and we willl now try and look for a school where 90-100% of the cost will be paid for by her athletic ability.

I feel bad as we waited this long hoping we would receive scholarships but we think we overestimated our daughters academic record and thus we are in this bind. I plan to request relapse this week but wondering if anyone had an real life experience breaking ed agreements? There is a lot of hypothetical discussion about what could happen but thought we would check here for any insight? Thank you

The school will release her, no problem there (just explain to them why: finances didn’t work out), but she was supposed to have withdrawn all other applications when she accepted the ED spot, so she’ll have to start new applications, but not many schools will accept them now (I don’t know them, other than rolling admissions and community colleges).

She didn’t have any other applications in. We just actually started looking at schools she can apply to. We believe we found a DII school that will offer her substantial money to attend so we plan to check them out this weekend.

You may want to check out the NACAC list of colleges that still have openings. https://www.nacacnet.org/news–publications/Research/CollegeOpenings/

Thank you. The school we plan To visit is on that list. I was also hoping to hear from anyone who actually rescinded their ed commitment or knows someone who did and what actually happened.

Can you say what your concern is? You might not hear from anyone because nothing happens. You might not get your deposit back.
