Early graduation: good or bad?

Do you think graduating from high school one year early looks good or bad on a college application? My counselor is trying to convince me that it would be better if I stay all four years because of more time for "enrichment." And, apparently, it would look better on a college app because I would be able to get internships and stuff. Both me and my sister are in all top classes, but I make better grades than her when she was in my position. My sister said that she didn't let the counselor convince her because she thinks that they wanted her there for all for years because it equals more money for them. Anyways, my counselor says I would be better prepared for college. My sister graduated early and is in college with a 4.0 GPA at the moment. She says graduating early was the best thing she ever did. Some say that early graduation shows dedication, others say that no college will want you because you will look like you are not prepared and immature.

The growth of academic maturity I experienced in the first semester of my senior year has honestly surprised me. I feel that a fourth year of highschool does prepare you better for college (and also looks better on applications). If I were in your position I would try to evaluate it for myself. Can you get in another year of language, another course that looks good?

Instead of graduating early, you can utilize early admission at some universities where you can apply when your a junior, and if you’re accepted and decide to enroll, you completely bypass your senior year+hs graduation and move into college. Personally, I made my older son do this in his junior year so that he could have a first hand experience of the application process before he applies in earnest. Also, this is a good method to determine your standing in the applicant pool and whether you need to cast your net more in the safety region next year. If i were you, I would apply for early admission and if you get in/see fit, you can enroll, but if you don’t then just take courses at your community college, which will enrich and strengthen your application.

I am going to max out German because I started German I in middle school (needed transportation every morning to high school). I am also going to get required math because I did Algebra I in middle school (Pre AP). That means I will have to take English and history classes over the summer and I will have to double up on sciences, but I am actually excited about having two sciences in one year because I like my science classes. The downside is I will have to sacrifice AP status on my history classes (I think).

@canadianmother: When I graduate early, junior year is skipped.
