About two weeks left until school! For students that decide to move in early, as opposed to the normal move in days (9/3-4 for freshmen), will we just be walking in alone? It says 9/3 is the first day student volunteers are available. Will anyone be there to provide guidance? I’ll be going 9/2.

There will be people there, approximately 1,000 freshman will arrive on campus Aug. 29th for FYSOP. If you register for an early move in date, they will be expecting you. The volunteers who help with move in won’t be there, so you will have to haul all your stuff by yourself.

My son signed up for move in on 8/31. Would he just arrive at his dorm that day anytime between 9-5? Will there be someone available for him to get his keys from & sign any paperwork? He didn’t sign up for FYSOP. We are driving down from out of state, and wanted to get there early, and spend some time in Boston.

Thanatos, I would recommend moving in early by a day. If you can come on that Friday, you’ll avoid some of the crowds and still be around a pretty busy campus. A lot of upperclassmen will be moving in around then. The FYSOPers will all be pretty busy until Friday night but that will give you time to move-in before seeing a surge of them come back. All the session 8 orientation freshmen will be free by Friday afternoon too. I believe that dining services don’t start until Saturday, so you’d have to buy lunch/dinner at the Student Union (GSU) or elsewhere though.

JDR140, yeah, he can just move-in anytime between 9-5. The ORL office will have people with keys and carts available for move-in. You should go right in to that office after parking. They’ll get you started with everything else.

Lauren591, Can you tell me what the ORL Office is & where is it located? Since my son is assigned to Warren Towers, would he get his keys/paperwork directly at Warren?

Oh yeah, if you didn’t make your BU terrier id card during orientation, where should you go to get it? Do you need it to get into the dorm during move-in?

Lauren you saw my spelling error hehe. Yeah moving in early is the plan. I don’t have too much luggage (well I didn’t finish packing but little luggage projected) and won’t need help but I want to avoid the traffic and disorientation.

JDR, it is directly at warren. you u up the escalators, through security, and take a right. its the office of residence life. they may have a table right by the security desk for you to pick up your keys. they make it really easy for you to find, though.

Thanks AliAngel!

The Terrier card office is in the basement of the GSU. I would check in there first before anything else. Pretty much everything at BU requires your BU ID so you’d want to get that squared away from the start. I’m not sure if they have different summer hours, but maybe call in advance to make sure or look around their website.

I moved in early my freshman year. I definitely recommend it. It wasn’t chaotic, hard or confusing at all even with the lack of volunteers. It was pretty straightforward and I loved how the elevators weren’t too busy. It was more relaxing and stress-free

For moving into Warren Towers, since we’ll have so much stuff to unload out of the car, do they allow you to just pull your car up in front of the building & unload? Will need to make a few trips back & forth & was wondering if it would be ok to leave it in front, or if there is some other area to park? Any other way to do it ?

@JDR140 You will be able to park your car in the parking lot in Warren Towers for free on the day of move in. The parking lot is right next to the COM building and there should be cones that you have to drive around. There are carts inside Warren that you can borrow to get your stuff up to your room.

you can park in the parking garage which is connected to Warren Towers. When you’re in the garage make sure you take the elevator for your tower. So if your dorm is in C Tower, park near the C Tower elevator, go up to the 4th floor and get a cart/key, then come down with the cart and put your stuff in the cart, and then go up to your room and unload. <- hope that wasnt too confusing!

@Versii & xhomefryy, Thanks for the help!
