I’ve been set on applying Early Decision to Brown for a while, but I’ve recently started to consider Regular instead (with just about 10 days until the Early deadline). I’m definitely ready to commit to Brown, so I’m making this decision based solely on what will maximize my chances of getting in. I got my SAT scores today (second time taking it) and I did not do as well as I had hoped to do. I had been expecting above a 2000, but I got an 1860. The first time I took the test I got a 1930, and my super-score is 1950. My score of 1950 is just below Brown’s SAT 25th percentile range. I’m wondering if I should put off applying until Regular Decision so I can take the December test and hopefully get 2100+. Also, this year I am taking the hardest classes of my high school career and I’m set to have the most academically successful quarter of my high school career, so by putting off my application I would also be able to show the school these grades.
Just to put this into context, the rest of my application is very strong, in my opinion. I am extremely involved in my school and I have a few leadership positions. I’ve started a social/political activism club and interned for my congressperson. My recommendation letters should be good, and I have one from my school’s Headmaster. My personal essay and Brown supplemental questions are also really good.
So should I go for regular decision, or stick with early? Are there any actual benefits to applying Early Decision or are they myths? Thank you!
