early submission of application

Is there any advantage to submitting an application early? Is it possible AOs start reading when the app is submitted early and they therefore would have more time to devote to an app that came in when there are not 100s of others? Or do they begin reading all applications on Feb. 1st?

I think that although it is dependent upon each school’s way of working, I have heard that many schools do not review any applications until after the deadline. But, you do get peace of mind in submitting it early!

Peace? Early submissions would leave me with the opposite. So much time where I could’ve edited my essays but didn’t.

I don’t know about you, but January 14 has a ritual of reading apps aloud and pressing the submit button.

I have heard that admissions offices appreciate it if you get the apps in at least a little early, not right at the last second. Not because they necessarily start reading them right away, but because it gives the office staff some extra time to start on the work they do to go through and make sure that all the pieces (scores, recs, essays, etc) have been submitted, and follow up on anything that’s missing.

I agree with soxmom. Submitting couple weeks ahead gives time to make sure everything has been received. It can take two weeks to find out one of the reference letter or another piece is missing.
