I've noticed in past years Williams applicants have created an Early Write thread where students freak out about when early writes will come in and then post if/when they get one! We don't have one yet, and since Early Writes should be coming out any time now, I figured I would create a thread. The dates of past Early Writes was posted on last year's thread, so here they are if you're curious:

Class of 2015 started finding out on ~3/10
Class of 2014 started finding out on ~3/8
Class of 2013 started finding out on ~2/27
Class of 2012 started finding out on ~2/25
Class of 2010 started finding out on ~3/1

It says "started finding out" because they seem to come in waves and because mail will arrive at different times depending on where you live.

For those of you who don't know what Early Write is, this was copied from the Williams admissions website:

Early Write Program
In February and March, a small number of Regular Decision candidates with superlative qualifications receive early notification of their acceptance. No special application is required, and no response is expected of students admitted via Early Write until May 1.

From my research, it seems that they typically send out about 200 Early Writes. This obviously means that not receiving an Early Write does not predict whether or not you will be accepted. An Early Write is just like an added bonus! In past forums, there has been talk that they are mostly sent to URM's, but I have no proof of whether or not this is true. Alright, that concludes this post! Best of luck to you all and please start posting when you receive yours :)

Early writes do not necessarily go to URMs; unless you consider a midwesterner a URM. DD received one last year, decided not to attend after visiting.

I sure hope that letter come in this week.
Even if I don’t get one, I would like to have the satisfication of knowing
that they were sent out and I truly didn’t get one. #tortureofhope…

i know that posts like this create a frenzy and start to freak people out, but i also know that there are people checking this thread every day for an update…

i just got an early write. im about 45 minutes from williams, so if it’s not in your mailbox today, don’t worry.

Congrats to you yaydis! We will now have an added urgency to get to the mailbox every day. D1 got accepted to Cornell yesterday, but still waiting on Williams and others. She is going to have some difficult decisions to make in the next month or so… Go eat some fudge cake to celebrate!

OH MY GOSH! I AM IN SHOCK! i got an early write today and I just can’t even believe it. It goes to show that numbers arent everything…SAT wise.

Math: 680 CR: 610 Writing:640 granted i only took it twice and my subject test scores were Math1:640 Math2:600 Chem:660

I think what clenched it for me was my 300 word essay. Well, besides that my other stats are:
1/200 rank
4.65 gpa unweighted
all honors/AP classes with all A’s on my transcript…my lowest grade was a 90 in AP English junior year…

but really don’t look too much into SAT Scores, especially if your transcript and EC’s are good!
Just so thankful to God right now
