"Early write" numbers exploding at Williams

Looks like Amherst is trying to grab everybody while Williams snoozes. Amherst probably figured out who applied where from finaid.

Family friend has gotten into Harvard EA, and received early writes from Amherst, Williams and Dartmouth. Those are the only colleges to which he applied :-)

If I'm not mistaken, he heard from Dart and Williams back in February....

So he wasn't deadset on Harvard?

wooohoooo!!!!! just got my purple folder in the mail today. It was the first thing I saw when I came home from an absolutely horribly long day of school and dress rehearsal for our school musical. This makes my day a ton better!

I applied to Williams and Amherst and got early writes from both, one a day after the other.

I applied to a quite a number of other colleges, but I can now afford to not worry about them anymore, because I would be far more than happy to attend either Williams or Amherst!

wow, the same thing happened to me, it was pretty funny (as well as amazing!) My amherst letter beat my williams letter by a day - i have them both up on my bulletin board next to each other and i'm waiting to see which one tears the other to shreds. i'm still waiting on 7 other schools though, too, so this april might be pretty tough seeing as i'm the most indecisive person in the world and i really don't have a favorite.

You could put all of them up on the bulletin board and throw darts.

(Psst Amherst is a lovely town and the 5-college consortium IS awesome)

i got an early write! and a car decal, but no bookmark. didnt apply to amherst.

Thanks, jrpar! I thought she had a good chance of getting in, but it's awfully nice to hear early.

Has anyone done the math about how many regular acceptances are left? The wait is killing me. And congratulations to all who received early writes!

221 students have been accepted early, and admissions likes to enroll 530-540 by may. if you use the smaller number, that means you have admissions wanting 309 students to enroll out of rd (after subtracting possible deferred admissions, but leave that out). if they count on a 38% yield, then they would admit about 813 for rd. so take the largest number of early writes in february and then trickling through march at 5 per day (from hopeman's post) - 200 total sent up through 3/3 (? is the day after the last early write meeting) and then 5 letters per day sent 6 days per week from 3/4 through 3/31 is a total of 320 early/semi-earlies, and that's only if they do the trickle-out like last year. So in the worst possible scenario- admissions wanting the fewest students (530) and sending the most early writes, there'll still be almost 500 letters sent out on april 1.
hope this helps :)

thanks noxious and fida. i've already sent them an e-mail whether it wud be possible for them to resend them. (noxious u know about that. ) they said OK but i'm yet to receive anything. well i guess i'll do what fida says. and thanks noxious for being so generous to think of sending yours. :)

Thanks so much, tophe, that definitely helps. Although it isn't too reassuring...

DUDE.

So, get this. For the last ten years, nobody from my school has attended an Ivy/top ten LAC.

Anyway, I got an early write (as I said earlier).

BUT, my beautiful best friend ALSO got an early write!

We attend the same school.

If I did the math correctly...

There are 200 early writes and 50 states. On average, about 4 people a state get an early write.

It's obvious that there will be more MA and CA early writes than say... Arkansas, but I live in Florida. Chances are, only about 4 students will recieve an early write.

What are the chances that two kids from the same ordinary public school both get early writes?

There's also a few others that applied--what do you think their chances are of getting in now? Does Williams ever take more than two students from the same ordinary public school?

I am so excited, though. I'll get to go to MA with my best friend!

More than 4 students in Florida will get an early write. Florida has one of the highest populations and is one of the most represented states. Still,. congratulations!!!

I won't be surprised if, when the smoke clears, we hear that Williams actually sent considerably more than 200 "early write" letters this year.

the same thing happened at my school, except with early decision. I go to a public school in ny. Three kids applied to Williams ED in a class of 160 and 2 (myself included) got in. Not sure if any more kids applyed regular although im sure someone did.

I GOT ONE YESSSS
postmarked march 7, so there's still hope for y'all who haven't heard yet..
i like the window sticker :)

here's the thing- I was recruited for track/xc but the coach wasn't going to give me a tip unless he saw that he needed to in talking to admissions—so he gave me a call last night and said.. "the outlook's good for you, I mean obviously no guarantees, but it doesn't look like I'll need to give you a lot of help when they go into committee." I ask him about early writes, and he says, "well, they don't really do those for athletes, only for, like, stellar students." I'm wondering if he knew that they were sending me an early write or not? He's at nationals now I can't wait to tell him when he gets back regardless of whether he knows..
