Does anyone have any information about the Early Write program. When are the letters sent? Is it all one day, or they spread them out over several months? Who recieves them - athletes, URM's, or simply good students? Thank you for any information you have.

I read something about them being sent in around march..... basically, people who they have already decided to accept for sure get the letters.

What stats would a white girl from the Northeast need to get an early write letter? I am not a recruited athlete.

I assume they'd have to be pretty good--1550+, ranked first in the class, with a ton of APs and an amazing hook. Sigh.

I feel the same way, gingergirl. Wouldn't it be cool to get one though?

It would be incredible. But I'll settle for any old acceptance letter.... :)

When do the normal letters come? Is it April 1 or April 15?

Williams actually sends a lot of early write letters. Every year they send a word document with all of the accepted students to alumni admissions volunteers such as myself, indicating the "circumstance" under which the students were accepted.

They identify accepted students with labels such as EGDP(accepted early decision), RGDP (accpted regular decision) and EWAD (accepted with an "early write.") I would venture to say that about half of the students who were accepted (and did not apply via ED) were tagged as EWAD. They often receive acceptance letters in late February or early March.

Hope this helps : ) Good luck

That's pretty cool, but I agree with gingergirl. I'd be happy just getting an acceptance letter. However, Williams is one of my top choices and getting an Early Write would allow me to make earlier plans to visit the campus.

oh WOW... half of the RD acceptees? that's certainly a huge chunk. if i was so lucky as to get one of those letters, i'd be ECSTATIC!

crosses fingers

Oh wow, my hopes are back up. Thanks for the information, mikeyD222! Do you have any way of knowing whether the half that were EWAD were generally those with higher scores, or were they people with desirable qualities (geographic diverstiy, URM, first-generation, etc.)?

Either way, half is pretty good.

Thank you mikeyD222 for this extremely helpful information. I'd love to get an early write so I can make plans to visit.

hey gang.......

No problem. I don't think that there are any specific academic criteria that would make one qualify for an early-write.

Not even if you discovered the cure to AIDS?

;P

If anyone receives one of these Early Writes, make sure to post about it! I'm sure we'll all be interested to know.

If you discovered a cure for AIDS, you could probably forego college altogether.

hehehehe

does anyone know when early writes come?

While their are a fair number of EW accepties, the total number of overwrites is less than half of the students accepted RD. It's certainly an honor, especially to a school like Williams.

anyone hear yet?

nope. Just letters regarding financial info and non-custodial parent stuff.

I don't think they are sent out all at once, but in waves.

Some have already been sent out. Williams tends to send at the same time as Dartmouth sends their "likelies." Its strange that no one on here has received anything yet. I would predict that 5 - 10 of the regular posters on here will receive early writes this year

I sure hope so. All this likely letter talk at other schools has gotten me antsy, and getting one from one of my top choices (williams) would be amazing.
