I know a post in another thread said that EW’s started trickling in on March 12th of last year, but has anyone received one yet?

i wish i have :)

Yes, I just got one today.

yay! how exciting for you, incredibly close! :)

Congrats incrediblyclose! If you don’t mind me asking, where are you located in relation to Bowdoin?

can you pliz say what’s written on your early write? :D

I’m in Maine, less than an hour from Bowdoin.

I won’t type it word for word, but…It’s really just an admission letter, it says that I am officially being offered admission to Bowdoin College Class of 2014. I didn’t realize that Early Writes existed, so I was just wondering why it came so early. Near the bottom of the letter it says that they are sending my decision early to give me plenty of time to consider Bowdoin before making a decision.

What on earth is an early write? And who gets them?

WhatKatieDid:

Basically, elite colleges will send “early writes” (aka likely letters) to their top applicants. These can range from straight-up acceptance letters (as incrediblyclose received), to letters that say when the decisions are officially sent, that applicant will most definitely receive an acceptance. Typically, these are sent in early to mid March, and, are sent only to the top applicants (I’m sure the percentage varies from college to college).

If you don’t get one, DO NOT WORRY. This does not mean you will not get into the institution. Colleges just like to lure their best applicants by granting early admission so that applicant will think more about the institution.

Hope that helps!

When you applied EDI or EDII is it possible to get waitlisted? or they just defer you or reject you?

arizonadrinks:
if you apply EDI or II, they can defer you to the RD pool, and theoretically you could get accepted, rejected, or waitlisted from there. however, when they send out ED letters, it’s only accepted/deferred/rejected.

also if anyone is looking to see what a typical early write looks like or includes, check here:

it’s the early write thread from Williams, and the 14th post has two pictures of the letters, if you’re interested.

I got one yesterday! There’s a handwritten note at the bottom as well.

I got mine in the mail today! Strangely, Bowdoin SAO believes that my parents can pay full freight (patently false, 15K/yr would be a stretch let alone 50K/yr), but hopefully things will get sorted out.

EvilSpartan92 thanks!
I got mine Monday, and I’m still freaking out, with somewhat generous finaid. Congrats to everybody else who got in!! Hopefully, I’ll see you all next year!

The luck of the Irish was with my son today!!

I got mine on the 13th, when I had pretty much given up hope of any likely letters or early writes.
