Hey,
Is there anyone who knows the rankings for colleges with the best Earth Science/Geology departments?
I've checked out the usnews site, but they only have the top 4 colleges; I'm really looking for a longer list.

Thanks

I'd suggest that, instead of looking for a ranking, you instead focus on finding out what makes a quality program in geology/earth sciences. That will be the best way to evaluate and compare individual departments. Two good sources of information are:

http://www.careercornerstone.org/geosciences/geosci.htm Sloan Career Cornerstones

http://www.agiweb.org American Geological Institute

These sites also have some lists of programs in these fields. Another resource to try isthe Environmental Education Directory:
http://www.enviroeducation.com

Next, contact the geology departments of a few schools that interest you, and talk with them about what to look for in a department. Finally, start comparing individual departments and programs, using your OWN ranking criteria based on your individual interests and goals.

Of course, your ranking criteria should also include what you, individually, want/need in a college outside of the geology department -- big/small, location, etc. Majors can and do change, so it's always a good idea to make sure the school you attend is a "fit" in other ways.
