I am planning on applying to transfer to Cal from another top 50 university. I currently have about a 3.4 at this university and am fairly certain that I will not get in if I apply as a History major. So, I was researching admissions rates and apparently Molecular Toxicology has a very high transfer rate in comparison to the other majors. And here comes the question that I'm sure will get criticized a lot. If I transfer into Molecular Toxicology (I have taken a pretty good amount of sciences amazingly so they wouldn't be overly suspicious lol) how easy will it be for me to change back into history?

Well first you will run into some difficulty transferring in. It’s harder to transfer from a 4-year than it is from a community college, just FYI.

If you get in though:
Changing majors, at least from what I’ve heard, is left intentionally difficult to prevent people from doing what you just described. lol.

They will figure you out easily enough and then you will lose all face and destroy your reputation forever at UCB. You can try and hope they give you hell for two years for it.

molecular toxicology is in CNR while history is in L&S. You’d have to petition to change colleges first. This could possibly be quite difficult. It’d be must easier to switch majors within L&S.

So, if i decided to major in, say, classical civilizations… this would become a more feasible plan?

im a history major too!! wow im finding so many of you on CC :]
and BTW for berk, they do it by admission to the college, NOT the major. so if you apply in any major under L&S then youre competing with all other L&S majors for admission.
or so i hear.
if im wrong, anybody feel free to kick me.

looking at the transfer admission percentages… History is under social sciences and social sciences are at 23% while arts and humanities is at 45%… and i found a nice medium… im a history major that is focusing on middle eastern history… so i mean if i got in at Middle Eastern studies i would be just as happy as being a history major and middle eastern studies is at 33%

NoGPA you could be a cool dude but ethically would still think you are a self entitled scheming scumbag for feeling you deserve to go to a good school like UCB through shameless unscrupulous means when you are an average student who can’t even spell ridiculous properly and come to CC to get your ego stroked.

or… i could get in under Middle Eastern studies and stick to it cuz im a history major that focuses on middle eastern history anyway… i hope you realize that what ur saying makes no difference to me… cuz i’ve lived in berekely for the better portion of my life and want to go to a college in my favorite place in the world, i have completed all my pre-med courses at a legit school and now want to get a degree in a major i enjoy, but honestly dont care about, in a place that i consider home

oh and as far as CC ego goes, i could care less what people here think of me… evidenced by the fact that i am much more concerned about enjoying where i go to school with friends i have lived with my whole life despite the flack i will receive on a website…

Where is Berekely? I lived in Berkeley for many years but never heard of Berekely before. I also lived by Harvard for many years so does that entail I should feel self entitled for them to let me in as well if aren’t up to par?

are you really going to turn this into a spelling bee… the fact that you are willing to insult my intelligence online, when all i did was ask for advice, shows how insecure you are with what you have done. If i went to a CC i would’ve gotten straight As for sure. I am sorry I decided to give it “the old college try” across the country at a school where i now feel i do not belong. I am sorry i took honors math in college when i couldve just gotten away with taking the bare minimum. I am sorry I didn’t get in the first time around I applied to Cal because i didnt try hard enough in high school. I am also sorry for the fact that you feel it is necessary that you attack my methods of entering my dream college when I am willing to bet you went to a community college and took classes that were far below your intelligence level and transfered into a UC after taking classes that you had no business being in. I would much rather “scheme” my way into something challenging and push my boundaries at a school that is better than me instead of doing what many others do and pick on intro english courses for the better part of 4 years.

the entire admissions process is a game… some play it better than others… im just trying to get coaching

The admissions process isn’t as much a ‘game’ as you are suggesting. It’s merely an observation but you just come across as a pathological liar who isn’t even good at that. Also how does one incorrectly spell a place they lived for years yet think they are immune to honest criticism on an open forum web site? To be on the safe side maybe you should just start calling your ‘dream’ school Cal since you can’t even spell it correctly.

anyway… for people who actually want to help me… the last thing that actually mattered:

looking at the transfer admission percentages… History is under social sciences and social sciences are at 23% while arts and humanities is at 45%… and i found a nice medium… im a history major that is focusing on middle eastern history… so i mean if i got in at Middle Eastern studies i would be just as happy as being a history major and middle eastern studies is at 33%

if ur satisfied with middle eastern crap…then go ahead. Hahahha let me know if you get in!

dude… im a history major with only two history courses taken (kinda loaded up on pre-med classes while exploring my options)… middle eastern history is where i wanted to go with it… so i mean i’d assume they are basically the same thing arent they?

dudette*
and if thats where you wanted to go with it, do it. but seriously, your chances are already lower than say, mine, because youre coming from a 4 yr whilst i am a local ccer. also, that means your pre-reqs arent done which is what their NUMBER ONE CRITERIA IS. now idk the pre reqs for middle eastern studies but im sure there are some…
