ease of transfer (prestigious vs. less prestigious)

is it easier to transfer to a prestigious university from a prestigious one or from a less prestigious one? For example, if I want to transfer from Emory to Duke, would it be easier than if I was transferring from less prestigious one such as SUNY Binghamton or Rochester given the same grades?

You’re asking an unanswerable question because “prestige” is a wholly subjective and entirely nonsensical way to measure colleges.

It’s not an unanswerable question - just a cumbersome one. (Also, prestige isn’t wholly subjective, though it is very vague and hard to pin down - I think the OP is referring to USNWR rank.) I had a conversation with one of the former Deans of Admission at USC when I was transferring from there, and he put it this way when I asked him about this issue: If you’re trying to transfer to a prestigious four-year private school, it helps coming from a similar school (that is, a reputable four-year private school) simply because your transcript will be easier for them to articulate and judge. Reputable is a very nebulous term, but I don’t think it would be unreasonable to say Top 50 (or thereabouts) on the USNWR.

yeah i meant like based on the USNWR ranking. alright thanks

i hope that you aren’t transferring away from emory!

i don’t know though, i transferred to emory from a super obscure school, and my roommate transferred from notre dame. i also know a lot of emory transfers from UVA and stuff
