Easier to be admitted ED then RD?

Is it easier to be admitted to W&M applying early decision? If so how much easier would you say it is? Or are the chances the same?

And does anyone know the GPA(UW) and SAT/ACT scores for the average ED and RD person to be admitted?

Thanks

i would also like to know this

All I know is that the stats of those admitted ED are on average lower than those admitted for RD.

I suggest you proofread your essays for “then/than” mistakes ;)

the early decision admissions rate is around 50%, which is significantly higher than the overall rate.

applying early decision provides a significant boost.

Then… Than…

I’m an idiot haha

I agree that it’s a plus to apply ED. From W & M’s point of view, it’s an opportunity to know they’re filling particular slots in the class - they don’t have to guess whether a 2100-SAT, 3.85 GPA flute player will attend. And they know what their finaid obligation to the ED applicants will be, as well. So there are several advantages to the school; in return, the applicants do receive a boost.

But I’ve never been able to quantify it, because the Common Data Set doesn’t separate out stats by ED versus RD. The Flat Hat will usually have an article about the ED admitted students in December or January, and another one about the RD admitted students in April, that specifies the average SAT/GPA. And a third article once the Fall semester starts, that specifies the stats for the entire class. It’s common for the stats for accepted students to be higher than the stats for enrolled students. In the ED round, these stats should be the same.
