Hey everyone.
I am planning my college transfer at this time. However, I am applying to USC and I am unsure as to what to put as my major....Art History or Communications?
Which one is easier to gain admission to? I might want to do something in fashion, and I have interned at the Met in NYC. However, public relations sounds interesting, and I have interned at a great PR Firm. Both the Met and PR firm internships are pretty much comparable in prestige.

Anyhow, which school (college in USC) would be easier to gain admission to....???
It's not that I WANT an easy way out....I just want to get it! I'll probably double major anyway.

Oh, and by the way…Art History is due to my interest in Fashion, and PR is interseting as well.

mmm… I’d say go for Comm, because then you’ll be in Annenberg, with their specialized guidance counselors, instead of in CLAS, with their less-specialized counselors.

You can list a second choice major. Go for both.

I was at the orientation today and they told us over at Annenberg that they only accepted 40 people out of the ~900 that applied to their school. I can’t speak for Art History so I hope this helps even for just a little bit!

WOW! I was told Viterbi, Marshall, and the Film School were the most competitve! I had no clue Annenberg was so sought after. I read on another forum that the acceptance rate for Ann. was ~10%.

By the way, Stranger, were those applicants accepted into USC, but not Annenberg? Or were they denied entirely?

Remember, admission to USC is admission to the University - the primary admissions decision is whether you are admitted to the University in general - if you are, THEN you are “admitted” to a “school”. If you are worried that applying to Annenberg will “hurt” your chances at getting accepted at USC, it won’t. If the admissions department (general one) accepts you, but Annenberg does not, you would become a CLAS student, either “Undecided” (which is perfectly OK and what I honestly wish I had done), or you can matriculate as a Art History or whatever major. I was actually accepted to Annenberg as a freshman, didn’t like it but wasted a year there, and with essentially a single-sheet application was able to switch to a CLAS major that I enjoy much more. Remember, once you are in USC, you can always change majors (same school transfers are easy, going from CLAS to say Marhsall is more difficult but not impossible). I’d say 30-40% of students change majors at some point… including me!

Just put down what you’re most interested in as a first choice. Honestly Art History doesn’t make sense if you want to do fashion PR. Communication or, PR of course would be the ideal choice - but Annenberg is very competitive. If you’re a transfer it might not be as hard for you though. Either way, USC will accept you as your second choice major in CLAS even if you don’t get into your first-choice.

Thanks very much to both! By the way, not so much fashion PR…but something within fashion w/ art history…OR something totally different in PR.
Also, for any other transfer students, did you complete Part I, II, II & V BEFORE transferrring??

@123 To be honest, I don’t know. They just told us those numbers. They didn’t say anymore if the others were rejected just from Annenberg or entirely. I would assume that if they got rejected from Annenberg, then they would have probably been accepted in to their 2nd choice major if they were even competitive in the first place.

and yes, i completed part I, II, III and V prior to transferring :)
