Does it make a difference applying as a high school senior vs. applying as a college freshman?

from a pure statistical standpoint, it’s actually harder to get in as a transfer student - 10% admitted versus 19% for the freshman class. of course, that doesn’t include anything about the relative strengths of the applicant pools.

Statistically, it is much more difficult. Approximately 800 transfer applicants applied for a spot at Duke, and 80 were accepted. This year, Christoph Guttentag said that because the freshman class overenrolled, Duke plans on accepting 20-30 transfers. Although the acceptance rate was approximately 10% last year for transfers, I’m anticipating it being around 7-8% this year. But it is definitely worth a shot… just like with freshmen, Duke likes to create a well-rounded, diverse transfer class.
