Easier to get into UCB with Chem or ChemE?

Hi,

I know I want to do something with chemistry and that I want to go to UCB. But I'm not sure about chem or chemE. I don't want to apply with one and destroy my chances of even getting into UCB, so do you know which one has higher acceptance rates?

How easy is it to switch majors?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Be aware that chemical engineering has better job and career prospects at the bachelor’s degree level than chemistry does.

Cal’s CoChem is awesome – almost lac-like. But then it doesn’t do engineering. If Eng is your goal, you should apply to CoEng. Transferring into CoEng is extremely difficult. The transfer slots are ‘saved’ for jucos.

Blue, both chemistry and chemical engineering are in the College of Chemistry.

OP, I’m not exactly sure of admit rates for these majors, but my gut says chemistry is slightly easier admission wise just due to the fact that there are fewer chem majors.

Switching between chemistry and chemical engineering is pretty easy…same general courses and within the same college.
