what major you put down does have a slight (albeit very very slight) effect on your chances, but I don't think it matters much if you're thinking of saying Studio Art as opposed to Graphic Design at Yale. I'm talking more along the lines of Biology vs. Women's Studies at Johns Hopkins.

and well seasoned....like a mexican pizza

bleh... :S

Actually, a few years ago, Brown put on its application that students with strong backgrounds and continuing interests in under-represented areas might be favored. It has since disappeared from the app though.

If you're really desperate to get accepted to one and don't as a freshman, /some/ are easier (statistically) to get into as a transfer. Cornell, for example, accepts 29% of freshman applicants, but 33% of transfer applicants. If your high school record wasn't good enough for an Ivy but your college record is outstanding, it can be easier to do it that way for some people.

Better Odds

Cornell: 29% (F), 33% (T)
Penn: 21% (F), 22% (T)
Brown: 17% (F), 27% (T)

Worse Odds

Harvard: 11% (F), 5% (T)
Yale: 10% (F), 3% (T)
Columbia: 11% (F), 9% (T)
Dartmouth: 19% (F), 11% (T)

Princeton didn't report transfer admission rates last time around, plus they've also said they're not expecting to take anyone in for the next year or two, so thinking about them probably isn't wise unless you're a freshman candidate.

(Source for stats: CollegeBoard.com)

Actually if you really want to know the freshmen enrollment pattern, and transfer rate, you should be reading the Common data Set (if applicable) for each school which you are interested in

damn... columbia is hard!!

easiest way to get into an ivy: harvard extension school. just ask hillary duff!

That could be because they do not even have a transfer application.
