Easiest/hardest AP class - Opinions?

Easiest to Hardest From the ones I took last year: (5s on all of them)

Computer Science - It was a 2 hour nap, Took me about 15 minutes for the MC, and about 15 for the FRQs all together.

Biology - I don’t know why last year had the least percentage of 5s to date, with only about 5%. I found the exam to be an absolute joke

English Language and Comp - I’m a terrible writer, I think I got my 5 because of the MC

US History - My school has 2 years of APUSH, and I only took the 2nd one. Probably wouldn’t have been hard otherwise.

Easiest To Harderst in terms of courses, I’m taking these this year:

Calculus AB - This class is honest to god simple. I should have opted for BC instead

Macro/Micro - I feel like this class is more common sense applied to a couple theories and equations. Also, graphs. Lots of graphs

European History - I Don’t have to know outside information for DBQs? And the history is a mile long but an inch deep? Easy.

Art History - Our teacher is a joke, and I don’t really care about Art, so this is midrange for me. I expect to fail the exam.

Chemistry - Though I’m good at Chem, this one does take a lot of thought and work. Our teacher didn’t change her style to reflect the new test, and is still drilling things like buffers. It’s hard.

Latin - O.M.G. Memorize 1600 or so lines before May? Translate 2 passages I’ve never seen before? Kill. Me. Now.

Easiest:
AP Calculus BC (So easy, only 3 units on top of AB, taking both AB and BC tests this year)
AP Calculus AB (So easy, but “harder” than BC due to more new content)

Easy:
AP Statistics (Easy, but not math intensive)
AP Physics C (Easy, but many people say it is hard)

OK:
AP World History (OK, a lot of reading)
AP Chemistry (a lot of random “exceptions” to bonding rules)

Hard:
AP US History (More memorization than World History)
AP Biology (Basically science version of AP US History)

Insane:
AP English (I am in 11th grade English Honors, and spend 75% of my homework time on that class, and barely pull of an A. I have other classes like AP Physics C, AP Calculus, and AP World History, but none come to the difficulty level of English, I cannot imagine how hard AP English would be.)

@agupte: Bruh, AP English isn’t hard. Lit seems like hell, but lang is easy. Memorize rhetorical terms, practice MC, and you’re good to go.

From easiest to hardest:
AP Calculus AB/BC. AP math classes are so easy that everyone should be taking them to raise their GPA.
AP Physics B: Easier than a regular physics class.

AP Psychology: Just a bit of memorization.
AP Chemistry: I struggled a bit on organic chemistry, but other than that, it was easy.
AP English: I hated this class. Had to write so much. Spent more time on this class than my AP chemistry class.
AP Biology: This class has way more memorization and work than any of the other AP classes that I have taken.

I took eight APs during my two years in high school (9th and 10th)

Hardest for me would be AP Physics C Electricity and Magnetism. (Had to self-study this one, gg lol)
Easiest for me would be AP Calc AB, not really hard if you have good pre-cal background.

Since I have only taken four out of the MANY AP classes offered, I can only tell you so much. However, just through some of my experiences -in addition to some research- I can confidently give you my list of easiest-to-hardest AP courses offered.

*****(Excluding all the Music, Arts, World Languages, Capstone courses, and Math classes)

(easiest to hardest):

 1. US History (**tied with AP European History and World History): It's hard....for a sophomore which explains the classes low AP exam scores.
 2. AP Gov: If you are up for a nice amount of reading, you should be fine.
 3. AP Lang: I feel like our schools AP Lang is much easier than other schools but this is what I got.
 4. AP Psychology: I have not taken it but the amount of "5"s received on the previous AP Psych Exams are relatively high. I was told it depends on the teacher.
 5. AP Physics: It requires basic algebra skills but, however, also requires a good "problem-solving mind."
 6. AP Chem: There is not a lot of people who actually take this class but the topic- whether you are good a chemistry or not- is tough.
 7. (Hardest): Just look at the Urban Dictionary definition of AP Biology. AP Biology is a class that is tough for everyone, even the biology genius is your class. The topic is extremely hard and the AP Biology Exam is even harder. However, the topic difficulty is not why AP Biology is at the bottom of this list; it is the fact that AP Biology has the largest workload out of any AP course. I do not care who your teacher is but AP Biology has universally the largest workload. This class requires 100% dedication.

Easiest: AP Environmental

Hardest: AP Biology

My hardest so far was easily AP European History. I cried every night over it and several times told myself that I was done and was going to drop it. Never did and got a 5 on exam but still regret taking it because it wasn’t the misery and 4 hrs of homework a night.

AP World History would be next hardest because I took it freshman year and also had the same insane teacher I had for AP Euro. Got only a 3 on that exam

AP Lang and Comp is probably tied with World for second. Exam wasn’t that bad but class was pretty tough.

APUSH was definitely work, but nothing compared to my other AP history classes.

AP Physch was so much fun. I honestly enjoyed that class.

Gonna rekindle a dead thread. Only a sophomore who has experience with 3 AP’s but I have a good idea of the APs at my school due to friends and such.

Easiest - Hardest:
AP Psychology - teacher gives open notes tests
AP Environmental Science - bad teacher but easy content
AP Statistics - so easy yet so pointless, almost wish I had taken AP Bio instead. FRQs are even easier than the ones from APHG last year. Teacher sucks though because it’s her first year teaching Stats after teaching Algebra II/Precalc for ages
AP Physics 1/2 - new teacher this year, but last year same deal with APES. People usually watched Netflix in that class, but decided not to go on to AP Physics C because of how bad the teacher is
AP Calc AB/BC - fairly easy for most largely because the class (BC) is self selecting. Both are piled into the same class first semester but diverge into their respective tracks 2nd semester
AP Human Geography - had an amazing teacher, but there wasn’t much substance to the class. IMHO if you knew your vocab and bs’ed the FRQs you could walk away with easy A’s on her tests. Took it as a freshman and ended up with a 100 at the end of the year
AP European History - teacher just tells stories. Everybody gets 1’s and 2’s on the exam
AP US Govt/Macro/Micro - same as Human Geo but a little bit harder
AP World History - teachers are hit and miss at my school. Class isn’t too bad as long as you do your reading the night before, there’s just a ton of reading to be done
AP Biology - teacher gives ridiculously hard quizzes and tests people on content they have not even learned yet. This is however balanced out by the fact that his test bank from which he pulls questions as accessible online, and everybody uses it :stuck_out_tongue:
AP English Lang - lots of timed writings and reading to be done. The teachers are really chill tho - one is the tennis coach and takes people to the tennis courts after the AP exam. In the other one’s class they watch Star Trek instead.
AP Lit - tough content as well. Teachers are hit/miss like AP World.
AP Physics C - teacher is same one from Physics 1/2 last year. Really bad, and can’t teach as she frequently gets her own test answers wrong. She once legitimately wrote up somebody for practicing witchcraft XD
AP US History - workload is insane, 30-60 pages of reading + vocab + DBQ every night
AP Chemistry - content is really hard, but the amazing teacher makes up for it
AP Music Theory - you are screwed if you don’t have perfect pitch

Easiest to hardest (out of those I’ve taken or am taking)
AP Environmental Science- ridiculously easy, self studied without much studying and got a 5
AP CompSci-I’m very good at programming, should be straightforward.
AP Language- all it seems to be is memorization and essays.
AP Bio- for some reason wasn’t that hard for me, got a 5 with diligent studying
APUSH- lots of memorization, interpretation and writing
AP Physics 1- looks scary as heck.
AP Chem- kill me now…so much work.

Easiest to hardest (only the exams)

AP Chinese - I’m a native speaker sooooo
AP Lang
AP Lit
AP US Gov and Pol
APUSH
WHAP
AP Macro - for some reason I totally panicked in the FRQs; I still got a 5 but it was a really stressful test haha
AP Calc AB - had an amazing teacher, so the test went really well
AP Bio - it was so simple in comparison to chem and physics!
AP Calc BC
AP Chem - the hardest I ever studied for a test, paid off with a 5!
AP Music Theory - the aural FRQs were soulcrushing. A little ashamed that I got a 4 considering that I’ve played classical piano for 12 years -_-
AP Physics B - never felt so lost in a test before. awful teacher, I attempted to reteach myself 2nd semester in the two weeks before the test… somehow got a 4.

either way, so glad i’m in college now.

You obviously don’t have good teachers. My school is nationally ranked. I graduated with my GPA a 5.4 on a 5 scale and found those classes hard. I was ranked 12 in my school and took all AP.
AP English is considered the 2ND hardest in my school, mainly because we had at least two essays a week plus a presentation and a practice AP multiple test every Friday
AP Calculus is the hardest and that’s coming from a math major. Our test were timed and very hard, and we were required to take notes everyday.
AP Spanish was very easy because I’m fluent. All we did was presentations, however our teacher only allowed us to talk Spanish in class if you spoke English it was a minus 5 points of your homework.
AP Biology was easy, because I love science, mainly studied cells and disected animals.
AP US History was a killer, struggled with it a little but just know your presidents and what occurred at the time.
AP Chemistry was though, for our 3 weeks test we had to memorize the periodic table and describe them.
Never took AP Physics, instead took ollege Physics at my school.
None of these class were a blow off class and if you were to say that then you obviously donnot have an AP material teacher.

AP English Lit and AP Statistics are the most brutal at my school. Probably AP English Language would be the easiest.

From Easiest to Hardest AP Exams:

AP Human Geography
AP Environmental Science
AP Psychology
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
AP Worlds History
AP Langauge
AP Literature
AP Calculus BC
AP USH
AP Computer Science A
AP Chinese
AP Biology
AP Physics I
AP Physics C Mech
AP Physics II
AP Spanish
AP Chemistry
AP AP Physics C Electricity

Yes, I took them all except AP Lit, AP Psych, and AP Spanish. Didn’t get the AP State Scholar ;(…

Ok so I’d have to echo the person from the nationally ranked school in that, if you are saying that you got an A plus in your AP class without trying at all (with the exception of like .01 % of the population- there’s always outliers), then your teacher was not challenging you enough. AP classes are supposed to be like introductory college courses and thus should not be a breeze. My school has an extremely high ratio of kids who take AP classes:kids who get either a 4 or 5, and this is because the classes are HARD. At a public school in my city, I have friends who took AP World sophomore year and got As in their classes but got 2s on the exam. Just because your class is easy does not mean you are prepared to skip an introductory course in college even if your college will let you, I know of many who did and regretted it. Anyways, my school is small so even if I have not personally taken an AP, I know people who have an know how hard it is. Also, my school does not offer AP Physics C, AP French, BC calc, AP Econ, AP Psych, or AP Gov and anyone who takes them has to do an online class as an independent study, so I can’t rate them. I am taking AP Gov right now and it is the easiest AP I have taken thus far. I am also currently taking AP English Lit, and it is a lot of work but doable if you like reading. I have taken APUSH, AP World, and AP Bio. I got a 3 on my Bio exam because I ran out of time of the essays… no matter how prepared you are, pacing yourself can make or break you. I got a 4 on APWH and a 5 on APUSH. Also, my school requires a teacher rec to take an AP and you have to get your advisors permission to take more than 1 in 10th grd, 2 in 11th, and 3 in 12th. No freshmen are allowed to take AP for any reason. Anyways, here is my ranking from easiest to hardest:

AP Enviro (easy class but lots of people who shouldn’t take any APs take this and therefore the %of 5s is low)
AP World
AP Stats
AP Music Theory
AP Spanish
APUSH
AP English
AP Calc AB
AP Bio
AP Chem (a literal death sentence, you have to come to school an hour early to do labs its so gross)

My advice to anyone taking AP classes or thinking about doing so is: play to your strengths! If you hate reading don’t do AP Lit, if you stink at math don’t do AP Physics C, and for the love of god, do not take AP Enviro because you heard it’s easy, if it’s the only AP you feel qualified to take, chances are your feelings are misplaced and you will end up with a 2.

Easiest: AP Psychology, AP English Language, AP Environmental Science

AP US History and AP Human Geography are on the easier end. AP European History is also not so difficult.

At my High School(s)

Easiest: AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP Statistics, AP Macroeconomics

Medium: AP US History, AP Government, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB

Hardest: AP Physics B (Now Called AP Physics 1 and 2), AP Physics C EM, AP World History , AP English Literature

The Absolute Hardest AP Class at my HS: AP Chemistry (even with having to take College Prep Chem in the Fall, most students did not pass this class).

Easiest to Hardest:

Statistics
English Literature and Composition
English Language and Composition
Biology
U.S. History
European History
Calculus BC
Physics C: Mechanics
Chemistry

Honestly, the material in physics is more difficult, but chem is not my thing.

Easiest to Hardest:

AP English Language: Natural writer with an inborn skill in articulation
AP Literature: Same as above
AP Government: Interesting subject
AP Chemistry: Before anyone calls BS, chemistry and other disciplines of physical science come naturally for me (aspiring Biochem major at Boston U), so this class was never a personal struggle
AP World History: History and social studies in general have always been natural subjects for me, especially since I got an 800 on the SAT Subject Test for WH
AP Psychology: Subject matter came naturally
AP Biology: Came naturally for me, although there was a lot of information to process
AP Spanish Language: Despite being Hispanic, none of my immediate family speaks Spanish (nor do any of my older family members, thanks in part to Arizona’s rampant discrimination against Mexican Americans during the 60’s and 70’s), so this class, designed around native speakers, was quite the struggle (Still got an A at least)

With this list I am going to assume the following preconditions: you have no prior knowledge of the subject (besides the prerequisites) and that you have an average teacher. I will also only be including STEM subjects since I only took STEM AP’s.

From hardest to easiest:

 1. AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
 2. AP Calculus BC
 3. AP Chemistry
 4. AP Physics C: Mechanics
 5. AP Computer Science A
 6. AP Biology
 7. AP Calculus AB
 8. AP Physics 2: Algebra based
 9. AP Statistics
 10. AP Physics 1: Algebra based
 11. AP Environmental Science

If I were to rank them by category then I would say (from hardest to easiest)

 1. Sciences
 2. Math/Comp Sci
 3. Languages (Assuming you aren’t a native speaker)
 4. History
 5. Arts (The arts difficulty is purely subjective; if you suck at art then the class will be impossible lol)
 6. English
