Those 1700-1900 are usually super international students who suck at English (guys who have medals at one of these: [International Science Olympiad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](International Science Olympiad - Wikipedia)). In other words, they are real geniuses. Also, they aren’t that numerous. Don’t for one second think that those guys got in with subpar academics. You, on the other hand, have not displayed anything that will redeem an SAT score that is below ivy average.

manjot1, Are you an international student?
Are these the schools you are applying to?

Yes, I am an international student.
Ec’s include basketball ( WINNER OF STATE), Poetry( Win ) and winners of many other things.
community work include teaching in poor skools

This is an important fact, and should be stated whenever you ask questions on CC about yourself as an applicant to US schools.

Regarding your other thread about having a background from Spain: URM status is only applicable to US residents and citizens, not Intl. applicants. So marking Hispanic will not cause you to be evaluated as a URM candidate.

Y is it important ?

Because the standards and expectations are different?

^Yes. Intl. students are in their own pool of applicants, both admissions rates and most of the time, FA are different.

Lots of really bad info on thus thread. Lots of 1700 and 1800 scoring intnls at ivies? No. The increasingly few with those scores are 1) impact athletes 2) major donor offering 3) child of key administrator or prof.

All URS are not treated equally by all colleges. Colleges meet their own diversiy needs. Native Ameicans and black males will be given the biggest boost at collges seeking diversity in general, but Asians are ought after by some Southern LACs and Hispaics are not given much of a boost at all in several states/schools that have lots of highly qualified Hispanic applicants.

Whether or not the OP will be seen as an URM in dubious. But he does
have a big factor- being full pay. So I’d guess NYU and BU are his best shots on this list. I’d also throw in a few lower ranked UCs-Davis, Irvine and SB. They arebanxious for full pay intnls and his stats are close.

Next add some of the better test optional schools like Bowdoin and Colby.

I have to disagree with this, Intl. applicants are not considered URMs. They may be considered in the diversity of Intl. candidates, but that is not the same as being a URM.

out of curiosity, are intl students given higher expectations and overall it"s tougher ?

It really depends in which country you apply from. The Asian countries are ridiculously competitive, while other countries might be a bit better. However, overall it would be more competitive than domestic applicants…

Dammit … !!!
That Sucks…More competition…
So, I have no chance of getting accepted in Cornell?

There are plenty of good schools in the US that will be better fits for you than those uber competitive elite institutes. Why don’t you broaden your college search? big names don’t mean they will be good schools for YOU.

OKAY the reason is I’ll be getting a fat 25,000 scholarship if I get into one of these

That will be worth the hours it will take to break 2050 to have a shot at the easier on your list. NYU and BU should be doable with that.

I also agree with entomom above, what I should have said was whether the OP would be seen as providing diversity that meets institutional needs.

Well I got 1800 without any help , first time… So, I will give it a shot and apply ED this year…
FYI , I wrote really good essays… I will be too lucky if i get into cornell…
But you guys have dipped my confidence like Titanic…

Cornell CDS: http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000464.pdf#pagemode=bookmarks</a>.
Click on “first year…” and you’ll see their number. You can google other schools’ CDS and see it for yourself.

Question to OP, if you are applying THIS YEAR, how can you even write the essays now? The prompts haven’t been released yet, and even though prompts are similar year to year, they shouldn’t be so similar that you could use the same essay for different years o.O

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

For admission in the fall of 2012 ,I applied to cornell .
I am gonna apply this year again for the fall of 2013
