Rising junior here, and I'm considering self studying for some APs. I know that it won't look uber impressive coming from a school that has about 20 APs offered, but I wanna do it because A) I can only fit so many APs into my schedule, and B) some of the material will be interesting.

Some of the ones I've considered self studying are...

Human Geography (school doesn't offer it and people regard it as "easy")
World History (school doesn't offer it and it seems interesting)
US Gov/Pol (school offers it, probably can't fit it into schedule)
Euro (see Gov/Pol)
Macro (see Gov/Pol)
Mico (see Gov/Pol)
Computer Science A/AB (school doesn't offer it and it seems kinda of cool)

So are there any that I listed that I should definitely go ahead and self study? Any that are ridiculously hard to self study that I should stay away from? Any suggestions that I didn't mention? All input is appreciated :)

Well, my school doesn't offer AP Chem or Physics, and I can't fit Bio into my schedule, so I've already self-studied Bio, am studying Chem, and am considering Physics. I wouldn't suggest self-studying history APs - too much material, and not enough time for the significance of certain trends or events to sink in. U.S. Gov (which I also self-studied) should be fine, as should the Econs.

Also, how does one go about taking the test while self studying, especially if your school doesn't offer the course? Would you go to a different school and take it or what? And would you still be excused if you self study for an exam your school offers but you didn't take the class?

(And imaparasite, I would self study AP Pysch, but I'm taking it next year so yeah)

You'll usually take it at the same location. Even if they don't offer all the courses, many schools will offer all tests. You almost certainly would still be excused.

studying APs for the sake of studying APs won't look as impressive as putting a lot of effort into an EC you think is cool. (and won't be nearly as fun)
e.g. instead of self-studying AP Computer Science, why not write a kickass game or use your programming skills towards a research project? it's more fun and you'll learn the material faster.

I wouldn't say CS is a course that is easily self-taught unless you have some object oriented programming skills...if you've taken a programming course, then you have a bit of an edge...

ya idk how you self study APs? Do you have to sign up somewhere? Or do you just sign up for the test in May? I wanna self study AP psych. How do i go about doing so? I ll be taking IB psych next year so it would be easy for me. So do i just buy a book, start studying it and take the test? Or do i have to do something specific.

does any1 know? will it show up on my gpa transcript? if i take the test next may, when i am a sophomore, will it show up on my sophomore gpa depending on the grade i get on the test?

I don't think it shows on your GPA, but you just study it on your own (buy a review book- Barron's for Pysch for example is a good one I hear), register for the test, and then take it at your school, or some testing facility (I think).
