easiest SAT--Jan.

hey,,i've taken all the SAT in the past 1.5 yrs, and trust me, u don't wanna take the princeton review. it's really a huge joke, unless you r someone who're completely clueless about the test. all the techniques they teach at the session, you can find those from their SAT prep books. they're identical. y waste 900 dollars on a stupid course? another thing, my SAT instructor did not say this directly, but he hinted that the january SAt and june SAT are the easiest consider the amount of ppl taking it. i've heard such rumor before, but just a thought

I've heard that before, but I seriously think it's a rumor. Don't forget, it's the last time the current SAT i is being administered. They could pull a joke. (highly unlikely though)

I think i will be "easier" because the people that score 1400's/1500's already have taken the test to apply for scholaships etc. SO the curve will be easy with more "normal" people taking it, so the curve should be more generous!

the curve has nothing to do with people taking the test on that day. The curve would be EXACTLY the same whether everyone taking the test got a 1600 or a 400.

I've always though the Princeton Review was made for those who were expecting to underachieve on the SAT. I don't know about the SAT IIs though.
I hope the "January SAT=EASY" equation is true, because that's when I'm taking the subject tests.

The theory that January and June SAT are easier than other months is like me saying I can run faster than the speed of light.

It isn't true, unless you can prove it? All SAT's are equally hard, they have different questions. If you can get around 1400 on a test in June, in October you will still be able to get +/- 30 points around 1400.

There is no curve to the SAT either. If there was, fewer students would make 1600's.
They center the test, which means they have a predetermined scale for a specific test ahead of time.
With this, most students can miss 2 or 3 on Verbal and still get 800.
With a curve, you'd probably have to get perfect to get 800 and if no one did, they would use a bell curve on everyone. So the person who had the highest verbal would go up to 800 and everyone else according to that.

Just some thought about myths and misconceptions.

Is the curve determined before the test?

read my post above, it explains about the centering
they don't have a curve.

dude princeton review...have taken it (BIGGEST WASTE OF MY MONEY). Some of my friends were like ooo u took princeton and i am like...yea what a waste of my time

kaplan is the same.

ok. so bottom line. SATS DON"T HAVE CURVES. the scores are adjusted by a predetermined scale, however. this goes for sat2's as well.

is this right?

there's no curve. it's scored on a predetermined scale.

ok...so do you guys recommend the "11 Practice Tests for the NEW SAT" book from Princeton Review?...i plan on taking it for the second time in March...

or should I use College Board/Kaplan??

Oh god. I hope it'd be true. but i doubt it.

yes, a predetermined scale, meaning -
on the October test you may need 36 correct to get a 600, while
on the November test you may need 37 correct to get a 600 and yet on
January's test you may need 39 correct to get a 600.
I've heard that January was one of the tougher months and December one of the easier months. Just what I've been told.

here's a theory:

since everyone is hearing these rumors about how "hard" or how "easy" some months are relative to others, this is the only that would be logical (it's a little far fetched) -- since the ED/EA people would already have taken the SATs and gotten it over with and also assuming most of the smart seniors have already taken it, leaving the need-to-try-again-for-better-score or i-was-deferred/rejected-from-my-dream-school people. so bottom line, it's not the test that's harder... it's the intelligence of the people.

now this is just a theory guys... so don't take it seriously and start bashing it if you took it in january and got 1500+.

i agree with sempergumby. i took both jan and dec tests of this year. imho, dec was far easier. i went up from 1530 to 1600 w/o studying. that could have just been this particular administration of the test. a person i took the dec test with told me that the dec 04 test had been the exact same dec 03 test he had taken a year earlier. following this trend and the fact that jan is the last old exam, jan 05 could be the jan 04 test...that's just speculation though.

CB has been reusing tests lately though...that may be it...

if that's the case, i'd go take it... only when i apply for colleges, the new sat will definitely be required.

mike , mike , mike ... u were positive that certain SAT tests (of the year) were easier just before break let out.... and i never believed it..... what changed your mind?
