I got to do a R1A class next semester and am wondering what the easiest one is. I got lots of hard engineering/science classes and do not want to worry about lots of work in the R1 class.

Personally I chose rhetoric R1A b/c it's known to be tougher. I learned A LOT. It completely changed the way I write, in a good way.

I thought Rhetoric classes were really boring? One of my roommates is in Comp Lit, and he basically gets A's on all his papers. My other roommate is in native American studies and says they grade papers really hard. One day the teacher just flat out told everyone that there papers were crap.

My rhetoric class was not boring. It totally depends on your professor though.

I happened to have a real professor teach, not some GSI. Maybe that's why I learned so much; she has been teaching the same class for over 20 years.

Comp Lit R1A is pretty terrible. I don't recommend that class at all.

Your roommate was lucky in choosing the right GSI. My GSIs hand out C's left and right in every damn paper.

I like Celtic Studies R1A with Dr. Agozzino. She's really great and you learn lots of stuff about folklore, however, she will give Cs if you have bad grammar and organization like many of my classmates happen to do.

It doesn't make sense to say this in any universal way, as people have greatly different interests, the teacher for each course is different, and the reading lists vary heavily.

Almost every course for the R and C is taught by a different person (even if it's the same department and designation, such as "English R1A"- there are many different English R1A classes each semester). Each of these courses usually has minimal overlap in the reading lists, and only somewhat related themes.

My friend in comp lit got a B. In German R5B (supposedly easy), he got a B as well. He tried (although was stubborn enough not to have people edit his papers). Different people grade differently.

It really depends on the GSI who teaches your section -- the standards could vary quite widely.

I believe I got lucky in my first semester and got an "easier" GSI, but because the GSIs don't show up on ratemyprofs, so you just have to take a bet.
