East Coast Matches and Safetys?

Hey guys, quick question....

Alright, so I know I'm pretty far into the game. I already applied EA and I'm getting my other apps done right now. Then I realized, 'I really don't want to stay in California'. Being a west coast kid with an especially dedicated father who I know will pop in for "surprise visits" etc....I think I really need to get over to the other coast...get myself a cold and sobering eastern experience. I know I'm applying to Georgetown and UPenn (legacy), but those are my reaches (3.9 GPA, top 15%, 2180 SAT). If I don't get in, because I'm trying to be practical here as those are large reaches for me, I still want to be on the east coast. I don't want to have to revert back to the west if I don't get into my dream schools.

SO, what other schools should I be looking at? I'm really a fan of a school that has its own campus (like Georgetown, unlike NYU) but is still close to a large city. I'm applying to UT-Austin because it has the nightlife/city, but it has the campus as well. But, that school is HUGE. I don't mind, but I think I would prefer a mid-size school.

Any suggestions? I've heard that Colgate and Wake Forest (both matches I'm assuming?) are pretty sweet. But they might be a little small in both student population and town for what I'm looking for.

This is CC; I know you guys know what you're talking about. I know I don't have to say this, but cut the crap and tell it like it is. Any chance at all making it into a decent east coast school?

I know that wasn't so quick, but thanks for taking the time to help me out. And sorry I titled it "...and Safetys". It's late....i know I spelled it wrong that's just embarrassing...oh the irony as I try to get into the Ivy League.

While Colgate might be a stats match, it is in a VERY rural area. If you want to discourage your father from pop in visits, that might be the place! It is my S’s best friend’s school, but Hamilton, New York is not Washington, DC. It’s a great school and he loves it.

look at The College Of New Jersey, many people turn down Princeton to go to that school…it’s an up-and-coming school

How about Tufts in Boston, great school, great city! Midsize about 5,000 students.

American, Fordham, Northeastern

Tufts, NE BC, Brown, Providence, GT, American, Columbia, Fordham, Manhattan, CMU, JHU, Loyola, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Rhodes, Denver, St Lous, Wash U, Ohio State (huge), Temple, Drexel, St Joseph’s, Swarthmore, Haverford, Villanova,

Not East Coast, but still out of California and in major cities are the Univ. of Chicago, Northwestern University, Washington University of St. Louis, Rice University & Emory University.

Actually, Wake Forest should be pretty safe for you - maybe on the safe/target borderline? Tufts is a great recommendation given your stats, “semi-urban but with a campus feel” preference, and desire to get the east coast college experience.

The insects are humongous in Austin, just an FYI

Apply to Rice University in Houston, its Ranked 17th in the nation…shouldn’t have told you to apply, because you’d be my compeition… Its got a small size too…

Holy Cross and Tufts.
