East coast schools near a city for an English Major?

I’m hoping to create a decent list of schools to look at in terms of transferring. I would like to stay on the East coast, be no more than an hour and a half away from a city (preferably by public transit), and of course needs an English major. I would also really, really like a Jewish studies or Genocide studies major or minor.

So far Rutgers seems to fit what I want best, but I did a really bad job at searching the first time around and thought people might know of some schools I didn’t even really know about. Thanks!

Brandeis, of course. If you/your family can afford it.

Sarah Lawrence, if you can afford it.

Tufts, if you can afford it

Clark U., in Worcester, MA.

Note that they have a dedicated concentration in Holocaust and Genocide Studies

Sarah Lawrence seems to be an excellent suggestion and appears in this article: http://flavorwire.com/409437/the-25-most-literary-colleges-in-america. The New School et al might also be of interest.

English majors will be found pretty much everywhere. Jewish/Genocide studies will narrow the list down quite a bit.

When you say East Coast, what region/states? Do you have a size preference?

Try using one of the tools where you can search by major:

Can’t believe I forgot to mention Barnard: 30% Jewish and has Judaic studies. Plus, one wouldn’t just be near a city with public transit available. One would be in a city with public transit available. Finally, Barnard students are sort of Columbia students at the same time because of Barnard’s unique partnership (not sure if that’s the right word) with Columbia.

Barnard would indeed be excellent for the reasons stated above.

@doschicos, preferably mideastern (NY, NJ, DE, etc) but Mass is also an option due to family being there. Prefer larger than small.

UMD - College Park or American University.

I believe Columbia and Barnard have joint programs with the Jewish Theological Seminary.
