I live in Arizona and have a strong preference of going to school on the east coast. I intend on majoring in business with a possible minor in journalism, so I am looking for schools that fit that criteria.

I have a 3.77 weighted gpa and 3.61 unweighted with strong extra circulars and other activities. So, I am clearly not looking at ivy league schools, but other solid academic schools on the east coast. As of now, I am looking at larger schools but am really open for any suggestions.

Preferably, schools with an exciting nightlife and/or sports teams but again, I am leaving my options open.

So, what are some schools that fit this criteria?

Larger would possibly be NYU, Penn State, Drexel, Villanova, Temple, St. Joe’s University ( a lot of schools in PA actually), West Virginia (if that’s east enough for you), Rutgers… I suppose it would depend on your SAT scores as well. There are A LOT of schools on the east coast.

Well the first school that comes to mind is the one I happen to attend: Syracuse University!

It’s located in upstate NY. It’s a very good school, but your GPA sounds like it’s right in the range of the students they tend to accept.

Their business school (Whitman) is good from what I know. Journalism is located in our communications school (Newhouse), which is #1 in the country and excellent. I don’t know how difficult it is to minor in a Newhouse program, but I’m sure it’s an option.

It’s a big sports school. Our basketball team was ranked #1 in the country for a while this season, then slipped to #2. but the point is, it’s awesome! Our lacrosse team is also one of the top in the country! We also have a football team, which is decent, but draws ina big crowd of enthusiastic orange fans.

As far as nightlife goes, there are some bars right on campus that are easy to get into & are hotspots for students. We are also a big party school (ranked #12) and greek life is huge so you will find lots of parties.

The campus is really gorgeous too, the buildings are covered in ivy and there’s a nice view of mountains.

So yeah, I know I’ve included alot of rankings, but I like to brag.
The only bad thing about SU is that the weather is freezng and dreadful, so if you’re a west coast person, it will be a bit hard to adjust.

Other schools that come to mind would be:

Boston University
SUNY schools
NYU
University of Delaware
James Madison
Clemson
University of Maryland
Rutgers
Northeastern
Towson

If you come to SC to see Clemson, then University of South Carolina (has good journalism school…clemson does not have j-school) has strong business school. Top ranked international business, top ranked honors college (recently named best public uni honors) although your stats would be low for honors college but there is also Capstone scholar program. 2 year college baseball world series winner and top ten this year, big time college football coming off great year in very competitive SEC. Basketball not so much! Pretty decent value for money even if don’t get any scholarship money but even some small scholarships qualify you for in-state tuition rates.

I think UNC Chapel Hill fits that criteria quite well. Its Kenan-Flagler Business School is highly ranked, and journalism is another major strength of the university. It also has a great sports scene (especially basketball), and Chapel Hill is an excellent college town.

Only problem is that it’s pretty hard to get in OOS.

Good luck!

What can your family afford?

As of now, I am just looking to get a general idea of schools so don’t worry about money.

I am also starting to look for schools that have pretty good law programs as well as business and journalism.

Let me know what schools fit most of that criteria.

It doesn’t make sense to consider and fall in love with schools which you can’t possibly afford. Also law isn’t an undergrad program.
