East Coast schools

I posted this same basic thing before but I wanted to change the title because my last thread was only about UVA.

Please, just read this and give me a safety/match/reach evaluation for any that you can.
Answering my questions helps too (SAT II Physics, EC's, etc: see below)

Some places I'll be applying are:

UVA (ED) want this the most
Cornell
Tufts
VaTech
William and Mary

I'm also thinking about:

University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign
University of Michigan
Georgia Tech
Penn State
Carnagie Mellon
John's Hopkins

I'm obviously going for mostly good east coast engineering schools. Are there any others that my stats match with that I'm missing? I can't decide which ones to take off of my second list, but I would appreciate a chances approximation for any of them.

Currently: Senior in VA (in-state, just wanted to make that clear)
Ethnicity: Indian

I'll be applying for engineering. There are many majors I like in that division but I can't decide.

GPA: 3.695 weighted, 3.630 unweighted
Note: my school doesn't give a lot of credit for APs and none for Honors. It's just 0.5 added to a grade in an AP class.

SAT: Math-710, CR-730, Writing-660, total-2100, or 1440 traditionally
SAT II's: MathIIC: 700, USHIST: 660, ENGLISH: 670
I'm going to retake at least 2 of these (Math and English probably) and take Physics also. Can I do good on the Physics test with just Honors Physics last year and starting AP Physics C this year?

APs: CHEM-4, USHIST-4, EnglishLANG-4
APs this year: Computer Science AB, Calculus BC, Physics C, English Literature, and Government
Other classes: Spanish 1-4, honors core classes except for history my first two years, band first 2 years, some electives.

EC's:
- Debate Team - member - 4-6 hours a week during sophmore and junior years
- Wrote an essay for a Northern Virginia Bengali Association Magazine and later helped design the magazine itself with computer graphics software
- Science Honor Society - webmaster (officer position)
- National Honor Society - member
- Pohick Homework Helpers - Tutor - 1 hour a week during junior year
- INOVA Fairfax Hospital - Volunteer - 51 hours
- Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program - Intern - 40+ hours a week, doing a lot of programming with an engineering tool called MATLAB (8 weeks in the summer)
- Band - trumpet - since 5th grade, kind of stopped as a junior.

(should I put the last one on my college app?)
Note: I did volunteering for the honor societies but don't remember how much.

Awards:
- 4th place - NOVAFL student congress
- 5th place - NOVAFL student congress
- 5th place - NOVAFL student congress
- Debate Team School Letter
- AP Scholar

Thanks so much! assuming you actually reply...

EDIT: OH! and I'm also applying ED. Do you think there's a chance that I'll be rejected right away? I just thought that, If I don't find out early, there's always the chance of regular decision. My counselor has been worrying me though and saying that only the best students get in ED, she also thinks that applying ED will reduce my chances if I get put in the regular decision pool.

William and Mary for engineering? No.
Other east-coast privates to consider: RPI and Lehigh
Other east-coast publics to consider: NC State, Maryland, Florida.

Your weighted GPA is still rather low. If you were to want to go to Tufts, you'd have a better chance if you applied early I feel. I am a liberal arts student there, however, so I might be the wrong person to answer. You should post questions directly on the Tufts forum.

yeah, W and M is on there just for being a good school in VA. I'm thinking of replacing Tufts with a more realistic pick, but I do want a few reaches. The only school on the list that I know is a safety for me is VaTech, so I need advice for another safety. I also want to add another match, and another reach to this list:

UVA (ED)
William and Mary
Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech
University of Illinois - U C
Cornell

9 schools is the max I was going to apply to.

i think you have a decent chance at UVA ED

def come here ITS FRIGGIN AMAZING!!!!

i cant even imagine myself anywhere else

I found out that I won't be able to retake the SATIIs for UVA ED. I think my gpa and SATII's are my weak points, but my courseload is one of the toughest at my school.

Are my current stats enough at least to get me deferred, if no accepted, from the ED process so I can retake my SATII's for RD?

please tell me my chances!

btw, UVA removed their ED application option

or so im told, i could very well be wrong, my roomie told me this

nevermind, this is something that starts for the class of 2012

Do you go to school in Fairfax County?

Maybe it's because you go to school in VA, but sounds awfully a lot like Ffx County. (.5 to APs and stuff)

How many APs have you taken?

UVA considers GPA very highly, but you're applying ED, so you have a good chance.

actually, as a student of UVA and who has spoken alot with adcoms, essays almost become more important then GPA here....essays set apart everyone with the 3.6+ GPA's

VaTech definitely seems like a safety, considering your GPA is right around their average, and they accept something like 70% of their applicants. Just write killer essays!

Yeah, i do go to school in Fairfax County.

I talked to my counselor, and career center counselor, and they said it's a bad idea doing ED at UVa b/c it is unlikely that they'll accept someone w/ my gpa in the ed process. They say I'm better off applying regularly with better SATII scores and good first quarter grades, so I guess I'll follow their advice.

Anyway, I'd still like some more chances estimates.
Here is my (very close to final) list:

University of Virginia

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Georgia Institute of Technology

University of Michigan – Ann Arbor

University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign

University of Maryland – College Park

Cornell University

Purdue – West Lafayette

Penn State – University Park

not sure if I'll keep the last two on.

hey! i go to FCPS too!

anyway, I think your GC is right in that UVA might not accept people with your GPA.. UVA puts more weight on essays and GPAs than on SATs and ECs.

I think Vtech will be low match/safety for you

cornell reach
UMich reach

others I don't know much about..
