East Coast to West Coast

So I really want to go to school in California, specifically USC or UCLA. I’m from the East Coast, and my mom doesn’t like the idea. She tried to play the whole safety argument but she’s letting me and my sister look at/potentially apply to some college campuses that are even more dangerous(I am aware that USC is not far from MLK Boulevard and such). I know it’s all about distance but USC is my dream school and it’s my future in question here. How can I convince her to let me go to California for school?

Are USC and UCLA affordable? UCLA will give little to no financial aid as an OOS student, so expect to pay close to full price $60K/year.
What are your stats?
Have you run the net price calculators for both schools?

It is your life, take charge of it. By that I mean, do research on the school(s), neighborhoods and mostly what will give you the edge to be accepted. Also, look for as may scholarship opportunities as possible. It is tough for anyone to turn down free money to attend a top school like USC or UCLA. Both of these schools are highly competitive. Both have beautiful campuses that are very safe. Any city has places one should not go - so be smart.

Initiative will win the day for you. Good luck.

What safety argument? It’s not like the east coast doesn’t have its own dangerous parts…

But think about the financial aspect. You might have trouble convincing your parents to pay 60k for these schools.
