East Edge Apts vs Lofts at City Center

this is great information. Thank you! I read somewhere that the beds are size full xl. is that true?

Yes this is correct on the bed size. But I bought D an egg crate to put on her bed and I bought a Queen size. It fit almost perfectly, so I don’t think that the size is a lot smaller than a true Q. All of her sheets and comforter are Queen and they really do not seem to be over sized.

We visited The Lofts and East Edge today. Both are very nice with the better going to The Lofts. The only downside of the Lofts is it is not walking distance to campus but the Crimson ride does stop there every 30 minutes. Every 15 at East Edge. Both have nice gyms, pool area and bbq’s but again the better being the Lofts. Parking is plentiful at both but The Lofts parking is indoors another big plus particularly in the rain and cannot be accessed by the public due to the lots being gated. East Edge lots are outside except for a small lot under one of its buildings but that covered lot is $50 per month additional. Both very spacious. My DS is going to room with 2 of his room mates he’s with now and they are looking for a 3 bedroom. Price difference was about $25 more for the Lofts after adding in utilities and the bedroom furniture but definitely worth the price difference in added amenities.

Does anyone comment on the train noise at East Edge? The tracks run right behind the EE property, and some units would actually face right onto the tracks. How often do trains run and what kind are they (freight or Amtrak or both or ?)?

Also, when signing a lease at any property off-campus, do you sign for a particular unit that you can actually see (at least from the outside)…or do you sign a lease and then an open unit is assigned to you at move-in. Sorry if that is a silly question!

My s lives at the lofts and he choose his unit. The lease has to have their apartment and bedroom number. My s loves living at the lofts.

My son lives at ee. He has not complained about the train. He received his room assignment in August. We will see him this weekend. We are going to the ole Miss game. I’ll know more then.

As for the trains, we stayed at a condo not far from the tracks. Thursday and Friday night it seemed that as soon as we went to bed that there was a train every 15 minutes. Went to sleep and did not notice after that. A light sleeper would have issues. Saturday night, did not hear them. We all said the same thing! I was wondering if maybe they did not have them running around game times or afterwards so that traffic could clear out, lol. But, we were all so tired we passed out.

We looked this weekend as well and think we have one place nailed down. YEA!!!

D actually moved into the lofts this weekend and already loves it.

why the move mid semester?

MikeW unfortunately there were some issues in the suite that could not be resolved.

The new Phase II portion of The Lofts according to the leasing office will be completed by December of this year. As beautiful as they were East Edge was a close second. My DS and his roommates decided on East Edge due to the closeness to campus. All 3 plan on bringing cars down next year so I’d imagine they will jump ship after sophmore year and head to The Lofts.

DS signed with The Lofts. I don’t see the Crimson Ride schedule as stopping there. Is it actually the Crimson Ride or is it a private shuttle?

Can bikes be brought onto the Crimson Ride?

DS will not have a car. Suitemates will.

My son lives at the lofts and there is a campus shuttle running every 30 minutes. My son took it when his car was in the shop.

I don’t know the answer to your question about bikes on the bus, but if that is not a possibility he could do what my D’s friend does. He keeps a bike locked at a rack near a commuter parking lot and uses it all day. When he is ready to leave for the day, he rides back to the lot and locks up his bike. Although, he might not want to do this with an expensive bike since it would be exposed to the weather.

^^ great idea. i rode the bus to school when i was in college. i didn’t do that, but it would have been a great idea.

the Lofts is not walking distance- look for somewhere closer-if you are at Lofts then you have to deal with parking- I drove something down to my son the other day and saw that they are building more at The Lofts - S is in a house for $600/month-no lease so we don’t have to pay for summer months unless he is in summer school- this includes utilities- frat brothers family bought the house- We got Lucky!

Does anyone have any reviews on University Downs? I read somewhere about tenants having issues when moving out about not getting their security deposits back, being noisy from the train, and having thin walls. I’m considering it because it is slightly lower priced, fairly close to campus (I have a car with me), and is all inclusive.
