I will be a freshmen next year on campus. I was wondering more specifically what east halls is like (room wise and atmosphere wise). I also want to loft my bed. Any advice on that? Is it a good idea?

My D is starting in the fall in the East Halls so, I can’t speak to the atmosphere. But, I had 2 sons at other colleges that lofted their beds. It gave them more room and they liked it, except for the fact that in both of their dorms (different colleges) you had to watch your head when you sat up in bed. My D has no desire to climb a ladder to get into bed so, she won’t be lofting. Also, at the other colleges the desks and dressers were moveable so they put their desk under the bed and still had room for a bean bag chair. I think, from what I remember and have seen online, that the desks in East Halls are fixed.

The room’s are split essentially down the middle, so you’ll have “your side” of the room, if that means anything to you. My friend lofted his bed and was able to fit a futon underneath which was really convenient for people visiting or just hanging out. There are people there too that’ll help you make it when you move in. If you have no problem climbing a ladder to get into bed then go for it.

The atmosphere can be hit or miss for people. The whole party aspect of East is pretty accurate and true, and if you’re interested in it there are plenty of people who are also. On the other hand, if you’re not into it, there are also plenty of people who aren’t as well, so don’t think that everyone there goes and gets wasted every weekend.

Hope that helps, don’t hesitate to ask more if it didn’t.

Thank you:) that is super helpful. Is there any advice you can give me regarding east halls? And I’ve heard the food in Findlay isn’t that great. What is your opinion?

I ate lunch in Findlay on a tour and I didn’t have anything bad. I mean, it was actually brunch so the ‘lunch’ pickings were small, but I had pasta and some stuff from the salad bar and some ice cream. It was all good!

sabi94,

Go to south halls, Redifer Dining. It has the best food, better than Findlay.

Having not lived in East, it’s pretty hard to dole out advice. But I’d probably say to just stay focused, and to work hard before you play hard.

All the furniture in East Halls is secured to the floors so you really cannot rearrange them. You can loft your beds but you are not allowed to do it yourself. You must do it through the university and pay a fee. Here is the link.
